The game is pretty difficult, and my first castlevania game. after being stuck on stage 5 for a while. I decided to restart and allow myself on save state when I hit the room right before the final boss of a level. Then I'll just beat the boss and accept any lives lost, then the eventual game over on the next level, where I will only save state if I hit the next boss room. Do you find this to be an acceptable way of first playing through this game? I am curious. I find it to be a pretty good compromise to actually making it doable in a reasonable amount of time. I'm going to do it regardless, but I am curious what /v/ might think about that.

my plan is to play as maria the second playthrough without save states and then belmont for the last one without save states.

I think there are tasteful ways to use savestates to make your life easier. Infinite lives is the main one.
