We didn't get shit in terms of anime here. We had Toonami but all it had was dragonball and Teknoman. There was some old MTV knockoff channel that showed Cowboy Bebop at like 11pm once.

Was this the same worldwide? I thought it was a german thing.

I watched Evangelion for the first time in pirated VHS LP tapes. I did not found out about the censorship until years later, when it aired on Satellite TV.

Anime shows here were hella censored if they're aired like on a programming block for children (In America at least) or they used to be Adult Swim would just pass shows fully uncensored and nilly willy, but now that the internet exists and people know how much butchering goes on behind the scenes they get minimal edits just enough to get past the censors usually.

Either ragebait or the guy who made this image didn't know shit. InuYasha and Detective Conan all aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, and Cardcaptor Sakura on Fox Kids. I can't really argue for Crayon Shin Chan and Doraemon because the latter was added to the Disney Channel in the mid 2010s, and I can't really say how many people here "grew up" on it. And although Shin Chan had that weird Funimation dub that aired on the Adult Swim block as well (surprisingly when I was still a teenager, could have sworn that aired in my 20s), there was an older english dub featuring Kath Soucie voicing both Shin and Misae that I'm not even sure aired on American TV. The rest of those I don't recall seeing on American TV

Christ, WTF happened with this one. When they aired it in the nineties, they started with the red jacket season first, green later.

The green jacket episodes were so degraded that the character's skin was white and the jacket looked blue. Contrast was so fucked that everything looked pitch black, and it had a completely different dub. I guess it was a 70s release while the other seasons had been adapted recently.

slice-of-life anime never appealed to me because the characters still act over-expressive and have bright colored hair so you know that their cooky and quirky and different just like you! even though it's supposed to be grounded.
I heard Fruits Basket is good and then someone tells me it's about special bloodlines that passed down the ability to transform into animals or some shit.
And then there's the fact that all the new SoL take place in Tokyo because redditors and Zoomers loved watching their favorite streamer play Persona 5 and there's constant references to meme culture and streamer culture. Where are the slice of life anime about catching bugs with your bros with cicadas buzzing in the background and chilling by that riverbank that's in every small Japanese town?

I remember watching Knightmare before knowing what chroma key was and panicking every time the other kids screamed at the player to start running when the bad guy was going to grab him.
