Skins seemed like a pretty safe place to put your money because of the scarcity. They've been consistently going up for a decade but clearly that's not the case anymore. Valve intends to drop the prices.

For most people this update is a positive, and im sure there are way more people with hundreds of hours in the game who are happy they have a chance to get more skins

The best point to sell was when CS2 was announced, which is what I did. I'm still riding that high and straight up bought myself a Steam Deck from that and reinvested in cases.
A spike in demand like that was once in a lifetime and people riding out past that were taking a serious risk.
