The thing is that it didn't deliver on its promises, its premise, or even overall design. It has bad game design moments like the crouch dash, a severe lack of presentation for incredibly simple things they could've done, looks like an incredibly amateur project because it was shoveled off to devs that didn't know UE3 well, and above all else at the end of the day? Was a very boring and apathetic clone where its only "innovations" were basically score attack efficiency and power-ups from minor enemies on a timer, designed around a xel absorption system that was more of a pain in the ass for an average Mega Man fan than it was some liberating and fast design trait.

If it wasn't billed as the Mega Man revival its creators touted it to be, it wouldn't have had to stack up against competently made games (for the most part) by comparison. And if it wasn't holding such a pedigree behind it, it wouldn't have had much for expectations. But they fucked up royally in nearly every regard to deliver a below-average, forgettable game that will only ever be remembered for its controversy. Just play Mighty Gunvolt Burst at that point.

I played this and I played the level with her. I remember she was getting mad to the young Dr Light knockoff. Frankly, I'm supprised that even now there's a lack of Megaman games. They can't be thst difficult or expesive to mame (especially if you took the 9/10 route). You'd think they'd be shitting them out like CoD. Not that that's what I want, God no but still it's surprising.

That's where fans come into play, since the fangame scene definitely never stopped, they just don't have a central place like SHC/SAGE to call their own. If someone wants more Classic Mega Man there's plenty on offer, especially with Mega Man Maker (which is about to get a new announcement in like half an hour, probably Halloween themed). And you got stuff like the X8 demake that got a lot more traction than I ever expected.

If anything it kind of highlights how utterly apathetic Capcom is to Mega Man right now besides collections and cameos. There's not even any spinoffs or tide-over games to keep the IP relevant.

Beck is serviceable, I don't really have that much of an issue with his design, though his in-game model and how he animates in-game do him no favors. It's mostly everyone else (the three doctors, the other mighty numbers, Trinity) that feel like first drafts of a design. It is bad because it was the most invested videogame Kickstarter at the time yet devs made a sloppy job on stretchgoals and cancelled a bunch of shit. Plus their community manager was awful, but that's not related to development of the game.
In the end people got a bad Megaman clone while Kickstarters with way smaller budgets actually delivered on their games because they weren't retarded and didn't try to turn their IP into multimedia franchise from Day 1
Like, if MN9 was some $200-300k kickstarter and didn't overpromise on a bunch of shit (and didn't waste a bunch of money on dumb shit) I wouldn't mind the result either, but $4m from kickstarter + whatever investors added is enough to make an actually great platformer and not MN9.
