I finally started playing this series. It's somewhat fun, but nothing remarkable. I've heard it gets much better over the second and third games, but is there any big improvement later in the first game? Currently headed to Aurum Base.

There are a lot of changes (like Awake has a lot companions instead of only four), but fundamentally the series remain the same. It's a JRPG with porn. You play it for the characters, the dialogue, the level design and the world (and the porn). The gameplay can get interesting, but it strictly remain JRPG combat.

You just play them in release order. So blight -> awake -> colony -> ASYLUM (spinoff) -> kludge -> L.Depth (spinoff) -> INNOCENT RULES (spinoff) -> thirst.
They're sequels to his old games (he calls them prequels), he made 7 of those and 5 of them are translated as of now. https://gitgud.io/SEQUELGOD/sequel-bin is a good guide for it all.

It has to do with the story in each game, they're in a post-apocalyptic dying world but they also take place after something in each game. If you replace SEQUEL with "After the", it makes a lot more sense. The first game blight was originally going to be called "After the Decay" too. So awake would be "After the awake[ning]", colony is "After the colony", etc.

The funny thing is that Innocent Rules is the first Sequel game I actually played. I was aware of the series and tried getting into it, but I don't like RPGs.
