Did this game ruin videogames for anyone else? It's glacially slow "cinematic" pacing, combined with the linear rail-shooter missions that punish you for veering off path or doing what makes sense (e.g. Mission Failed: you tried to stealthily climb through the window in our stealth mission), made me constantly aware that I was playing a videogame and sapped any sense of immersion and verisimilitude. Eventually I couldn't help but unsee "how the sausage is made" and couldn't shake the feeling of playing an interactive movie with boring mechanics and a lacklustre plot. GTA was designed in much the same way, but the diversity of weapons, vehicles, locales, music, and missions did a much better job of camouflaging the fact that you are playing a videogame.

I can still enjoy games that have fun mechanics (e.g. fighting or racist games) or games that have the structures in place to allow for more player freedom (e.g. good strategy games or RPGs), but all failed movie directors turned game designers should be shot on sight.

First Rockstar game? All the GTA games do the linear rail shooter thing.

>Ignore all the story missions and just go on solo adventure hunting and taking down hideouts in the beautiful word of rdr 2
As simple as that.

y'all need ta learn how ta make better posts, anon. y'all gotta be a better man.

but seriously, I think the game is better than its predecessor, at least mechanically. the story is fuckin' whatever, and I prefer the first game's stranger missions over this one's, but this game's first person mode really does a lot to add to the experience. hunting, fishing, racing, mini games, the compendium, etc all make this a better experience than the first so if nothing else you can fuck around in the game for the sake of taking in a breathtaking environment. as for how engaging it is, well it's not, but that goes without saying for pretty much all games of this type. moviegame indeed.

Some of the missions were okay, but the most fun I had in the game was when I was just wandering around doing cowboy stuff. It worked well for being a slower, immersive western simulator. Never finished the plot.

yes it ruined any other game because they cant even remotely get close to the quality of rdr2

I feel you, even never getting that immersed in games it's a lot of fun finding different approaches in a mission rather than getting railroaded, at least fucking around and doing side activities is fun
>racist games
Any recs?

Despite loving RDR, I never played this sequel (prequel). For many reasons. But one because it was a prequel. And two because, despite being massively addicted to RDR the first time I played it, every time I tried to replay it I felt there was too much work to get to the good parts. And tons of people were saying this game magnified this problem.

I also just didn't have 100+ hours to devote to games anymore.

Not really if you really appreciate it's beauty and
IMMERSION

But it's not a game for everyone.

I loved KCD
But rdr2 also has it's merits
From the pretty locations to all the super detaile unique npc interactions and animal behaviour.

>have to shoot animals in the head to not ruin the pelt
>can literally walk up on them and stab them
>can only carry 1-3 pelts and meat have to ride 15mins in each direction just to sell
I love hunting but it’s poorly represented in rdr
