Let's be real, the whole game is anti fun. Youre not supposed to "enjoy" this, it's a lesson in pain. Touch dmg, boss double dmg right off the bat, hiding poshanka in the most obscure areas, paying for benches/fast travel, trapped/broken benches, everything about The Mist area, bilewater infinite respawning explosive flys, etc, etc.

I gotta admit, it is. I didnt finish act 3 because I had fun, I finished it out of spite.
Silksong was almost more painful than fun to play, Hollow Knight 1 was just as hard but way less frustrating for some reason. Probably because it had less annoying runbacks to bosses

She's clearly different than the other times you fought her. Absolutely way harder. Copy paste isn't really fair to say.
Who do you think should've been the final boss instead?
Anonymous No.724137080 [Report]
Team Cherry is only a step above from another company such as FromSoftware in terms of writing. I believe Evil Female Characters exists and that GMS did rule Pharloom with a somewhat iron fist ruling but I think the Weavers are the ones mostly responsible for imprisoning GMS out Greed and the want for Power. I think there was a War between the Traitors and Loyalists and the Traitors won the War which had the few remaining Loyalists flee in fear and once the Traitors were in control of things for a while they eventually left too since they no longer had the numbers to continue to put GMS to eternal sleep.

But out of all of this what really bothers me about the writing is that we will never get to see the ultimate Yuri Fusion Ship that is Hornet x Grand Mother Silk. This really hurts, Anons....

Anything that isn't a boss we already fought, Lost Lace was just base Lace with void moves that every enemy has in act 3.
Remember, we had The Radiance as a final boss in HK, imagine if we fought Hornet again but with some buffs, wouldn't it be anticlimactic?

Naah it is by design. They made it that way too appeal to "lol this is hard" stream youtube meme crowd.
Sad part is you can see that put lots of soul and effort into it. But it was misplaced. They could've just put a handful of difficult areas to spice things up (like hunter's march, bilewater, the mists) but not make all of the game a fucking chore.

>double health

I think it's an alright mechanic. It lets earlier enemies still be threatening instead of the Knight plowing through areas to backtrack. Killing the void masses stops enemies in the areas from starting off void'd. It's also a good clue to look around the area for them if you see an enemy already void'd. It also trains you for Lost Lace's attacks

act 2 is the best because it's the one that lets you explore freely and has the most new areas to discover, act 3 just recycles zones with almost nothing interesting to find, the final main upgrade is also a giant disappointment because of how shit it feels to use and how contextual it is, being a glorified key to open up new paths and nothing more

CKK, while hyped up, was a pushover with 2 moves, and Nyleth was a mediocre gimmick boss. Act 3 getting 1 or 2 fun bosses says nothing when Silksong's bosses are lacklustre in general. What brings Act 3 down is the void enemies getting old fast and the shortage of new areas to explore.
>Lost Verdania and the Coral Tower are relegated to memory segments
>the Far Fields expansion is just more of the same
>the Wormways revisit is cool, but it's a glorified reskin with little to explore
I'd barely classify the Abyss as its own area, and likewise with the surface village given that it's a self-contained platforming segment. Maybe it's partly my fault for going all completionist before starting Silk and Soul, but the amount of content in Act 3 is too sparse for how much backtracking and retreading it demands.

NTA but technically Multibinder doesn't turn the numbers in your favour. Lose 2 heal 3 is a net gain, and one extra mask is enough to survive.

That's not why Multibinder is good. What makes it S tier is... well there are too many effects to list but one of them is that it makes it easier for healing to catch up to double damage.

God i miss the fucking Screw Attack. I want to go live in the other timeline where everyone didn't recoil at the idea of putting it in their game and seeing as a problem to be fixed. Just imagine how GODDAMN SATISFYING it would have been to go on a glorious endgame rampage where you could fly, deal lethal contact damage back to enemies for a change, and fly through Hunter's March like a bullet. Anonymous No.724148646 [Report] >>724149720
>>724148270
Well to be fair, the Screw Attack is loosely intended to be a mechanic that's designed for games that prioritize exploration. Combat was never the focus in traditional Metroid games, so trivializing it at the end wasn't such a big deal.

You could say that it wouldn't fit the design, but fuck that. I enjoyed Godhome for the most part, but I'm not sure I like this new flavour of combat-centric Metroidvanias if they're going to thumb their noses at core design elements.
Anonymous No.724149720 [Report] >>724149832
>>724148646
silksong is exploration focused though and screw attack making regular combat encounters trivial was never a problem against bosses because it loses its invulnerability here, it's a non existent problem if you want to still have challenging endgame bosses

instead of that silksong gives you a final movement upgrade that completely kills your momentum, forcing you to stay still and charge it to activate and being impossible to chain with your other moves, this is why I say the devs and fanbase genuinely don't understand basic metroidvania design principles

Hornet being a glass cannon who takes 2 damage from everything in the world would be less painful if she actually was a cannon, but instead they massively throttled your offense at the same time. So rather than being a glass cannon, you're just made of glass because fuck you I guess. Very painful game to play, I agree with this anon >>724133948 . Although it's not painful because of the runbacks, it's painful because you're forced to play the whole game with one hand tied behind your back moveset-wise.

Abyss Shriek is the only soul spell that does more damage than the silk skills, and that's specifically Abyss Shriek because Howling Wraiths is outdamaged once Hornet upgrades her needle twice. Shade Soul is piss weak and needs the fluke charm just to bring it up to the same level of damage as silk spells. Shaman Stone is more of a damage boost than Volt Filament, but Volt+Shaman Crest is more than Shaman Stone. Rune Rage is the only weak silk skill, because they intended for it to clear out gauntlet waves. And it's not even because Silksong bosses are bulkier because they're actually not, health values for both games are comparable, Silksong bosses take longer to kill because they're more mobile because Hornet's also more mobile. It's more like Hornet's a glass cannon fighting other speedy cannons.
GMS is basically the only boss that could work in HK and she's weak as fuck because of it.
Anonymous No.724152505 [Report] >>724155042
>>724152036
Regardless of damage, Hollow Knight's spells have overwhelmingly better range and more advantageous directions than any of Hornet's spells. Can you Silk Spear straight upwards to kill some fag hovering above you like you could with Abyss Shriek? No. You have to bait him into wandering within range of Thread Storm (taunting costs silk because eat shit, gamer, btw), or pray to the Rune Rage RNG. Even more importantly, you also have all of them at the same time, all the time. You don't have to choose between having Shade Soul and Descending Dark. And also on top of that, your magic ammo economy in Hollow Knight is way better because you only have to sacrifice 1 spell to heal instead of 2. Hornet's ability to deal damage in terms of range, directionality, opportunity cost, and flexibility are all complete dogshit in comparison to the first game.

I've used Rune Rage a lot, and 5 or more hits for 100+ damage is surprisingly common. It's the high risk high reward spell.

I just checked the wiki, and goddamn NONE of the spells can deal much more than 70 damage (before Volt Filament and Shaman Crest) except Rune Rage. Did Thread Storm really get nerfed down to Silk Spear damage levels?

Rune Rage is the only spell that can exceed Abyss Shriek now, that's crazy.

Act 3 secret ability btw. And while you can reasonably argue that Hornet's needle moveset and magic are throttled to make room for tools, and this argument does indeed sound very solid on paper, in practice >shell shards. Which is the big problem with Silksong. There's so many overlapping layers of bullshit to spoil the fun all at the same time that you basically aren't left with an out. All your mechanics got cucked pretty much all at once. I think this game was a victim of too incestuous playtesting, because it's indeed pretty overwhelming on a blind run and that's the most common feedback about the game so far. It's frustrating as fuck, and oftentimes downright unpleasant. I think their squad of testers lost sight of that over 8 fucking years of grinding the same game, and TC never brought in enough new blood to check what the response would be from a player with 0 hours in the game instead of 1000.

I cleared it with Shaman. Don't jump or use up slashes, walk back and forth and stick to forward slashes. The fleas will move in the direction you're facing when you hit them, so you can herd them all to one side. Longclaw increases the height of your needle hitbox, so it gives you a bit more leeway on the timing.

When the fleas come on from opposite sides, you have to pick which direction you're going to hit them in.

I did pretty much everything I remembered, cheesed Groal with Plasmium overdose (but fuck Groal) and almost died to the Raging Conchfly. Did a couple fights I missed the first time around (Garmond was as easy as I expected, I pity anyone who will try to beat Shakra hitless).
All I have to do now is the High Halls gauntlet. Can you get anyone other than Shakra to help you? It'd be cool if you could get Garmond and the Sentinel to tag along. Then it's off to beat Lace and trigger Silk and Soul.

Garmond and Shakra are the only helpers, and Shakra takes priority. You can't get both at the same time. If you've already triggered Shakra you can't choose to take Garmond instead.

Shame, a grand melee with everyone you've helped along would've been a cool moment. But I'd take Shakra over Garmond any day

Yeah Garmond's mainly good for the 5 hour speedrun since he's easy to get after you get the clawline. He's not as good as Shakra but he does enough that it's worth it to detour for him.

hollow knight had the sweet spot of difficulty
silksong is tough and will kick your ass, I enjoy overcoming it but I think there is something to be said about an easy mode where everything does 1 mask of damage
contact damage should be 1 mask as well, goddamn that annoys me

Pretty sure it's meant to be a parallel to the first game. The normal final boss is closer to the Radiance, while the true final boss is similar to the Hollow Knight. Can debate if it was the right call or not, but I'd be shocked if it wasn't at least partially intended.

What's supposed to be bad about act3?
My only real disappointment with act3 is that none of the bosses are any more difficult than first sinner, an act2 boss. But ignoring that, the 4 heart fights are fun. Fleatopia is cool. The abyss and abyss escape is cool. The sprintmaster is fun. Nuu guiding you exotic enemies is fun. Trobbio2 is fun. The Pinstress is fun. The bell eater is fun.
And Lace3 is also fun, even if I wanted to fight Lost Mommy Silk.

What's supposed to be so terrible about act3? It's really good stuff.

1. Even if you did, I still don't see what's meant to be so difficult about it.
2. If you thought it was so difficult, why didn't you do the other stuff first?

I liked Silksong, but it felt like spreading the plot stuff across the entire map made it feel like more of a checklist than continuing the adventure. Karmelita was the only boss where the run-up actually felt interesting. Coral Tower was underwhelming because the player has to explore part of Karak to get the map, which means they're likely to explore all of it for completion. Verdania might have been interesting but it was too short because they made all of it a dream memory where you didn't have any benches. And Nyleth was just a tiny area under the grand gate instead of being connected to Shellwood or even Wisp Thicket (I get the story reason for this, but it was underwhelming for gameplay).
