This thread is tired. The same OP, the same nordor, on an endless cycle. My favorite elves are those within Warcraft, leagues above all other depictions, more than Warhammer, more than TES, more than any JRPG, and the tragedy that Warcraft has become makes it sting that much more. But since the first time this thread's cycle began to this thread today, there has been nothing in way of elves. Nothing new appeared. Not a single TES has released. Warhammer slinked back to the shadows. JRPGs are still humans with pointy ears. I'll concede Unicorn Overlord's elves as a single exception, if only for the memes and a unique, standardized appearance.

I don't understand why since the first of these threads appeared til today, nothing new has appeared with appealing elves to fill the void. How long has it been? 5 years of this same thread? 10 years? And nothing.

You are far too uncharitable. Striking is the first step of good design. Striking with beauty is simple but effective. Warcraft went an extra step with its designs. They were gritty, busy, oozing with style, like early Alleria in >>724154498. Sexy too, often in loincloths and bustiers (same with Diablo art, like the Rogue), but they stuck with people for decades, which is already better than the super majority of elves. Touching back to Diablo, who will ever care about D4 Rogues? There is nothing striking about them anymore. No style. No appeal. Gritty is the only thing kept, gritty but terribly bland.

I have it downloaded but I wanted the PS4 one but couldn't find it anywhere when I looked. Only an Asian version with an English patch which is weird.

Back in the day, I used to save every single full art from blizzard's own website (in 2012, according to file properties). I manually saved every single one for series 1 and series 2, and sometime during the wait for more, they erased the whole art section, and S1 and 2 is all I still have. I'm sure it's easy to grab a full collection from somewhere these days, but I stopped thinking about it when I stopped playing WoW, years ago. You've reminded me I must be missing thousands of images by now. How many sets came out in the end?

Absolutely top tier. Holy shit. I've never seen that one before. Full disclaimer, since I quit playing, the only time I save warcraft art is if I feel it absolutely conforms to my impression of those races, and that piece is perfect. The chin, stubble, and hair are straight off the TBC box art. Clearly defined warcraft armor. Belf colors in artist style. Great quality. It's been genuine years since I've seen a piece so exactly right. The last time was, shit, maybe finding astri lohne's nigh elves? In 2019?

Similar to the question I asked noldor before, did Dragon's Crown ever show male elves in the art book or NPCs? I remember Beast Master and dorf varieties, but not a male elf.

There is also one male elf in the art of the Bilbarron (I won't check the spelling) underground fortress, showing an elf, a dwarf, and a human holding plans and discussing stuff.

Dumb answer, but I really like Zelda's Hylians because they don't have any humans in the setting they have to contrast, so you get the whole spectrum from goofy hick elf to aristocratic elf.
It feels like in most settings elves are allowed one of like two personality types.

It's far longer than that anon. About 10 years if not more. I used to look at Elf threads on v after school when I was in Highschool. I have genuinely left school. Did military shit for a few years. Left that and joined the workforce and I still come to the threads out of habit sine its a fun way remember the old days. And through all that time, Noldy has always been here. All day, every day. Spamming away. It's weirdly comforting at this point.

Anyways this might be strange but I'm curious on what are some of your favorite "themes" of Elves in media or that you have come up with yourself anons? I'm trying to get into vidya development and was trying to come up with unique takes on traditional fantasy races that would be in the background of the setting. So I could use some inspiration. I'm gonna be having Dwarves that are heavily based on the Inca as the main focus of it (It's gonna be a Dwarf mining game.) But wanted some Elves showing up also. Currently my idea is to have them be weird mushroom/fungal people that use magic spores to influence nature and sometimes mind control others. (Mostly mind controlling Humans tribes to act as frontline soldiers and labor.)

I think it's best when humans are treated as aztec era conquistadors - that said, just a powerful minority that gets used by every faction under the sun as shock troopers.

Then you can allow dwarves and elves to shine as messy, awful, power-hungry and duplicitous factions instead of relegating that all to humans while higher races look on and sneer at human mortal naivety. If elf mercenaries in your game are working for goblins because "hey, a dimes a dime, and goblin coin still buys food" you've reached the human level of ugliness that will make them really compelling, I feel.
