In Gantz they had the people boarding the alien ship to single One Piece "We are" oorning song. In the next manga Inuyashiki the high schooler antagonist reads One Piece and saya this wedk's chapter is crazy good. He also asks his victim who's her favorite One Piece character. I dont think Oku was mocking One Piece but simply referencing One Piece cultural status and characterizing the abtagonist by showing he reads popular manga

Watching the anime when I was like 13 made me start reading manga.
I always thought Gantz would be easy to make into a game.

You can just read it and find out yourself. The ending arc is giant aliens coming to earth and it's revealed the Gantz project was prophecied training program for humans to get strong enough to face the aliens, it was financed by making it game like so that the elite rich people could wager how the participants do. The MC gets together with normal regular girl and there's drama, one of the fighter girls revive another copy of the MC for herself. The ending arc drags a bit and it was drag to read on weekly releseaes but once you get to read it in one go, it becomes tolerable. The finale is humans winning the aliens, the bad guy humans raping the giant alien ladies, the leader alien challenging the MC on duel, the MC getting flashbacks of his chilhood when he was liked and hero-like to his class mates. The ending seems to first be a cliffhanger whether MC and his friend survive but in the end they do survive and MC hugs his regular girlfriend with tears running

Oh yeah and before the ending arc the MC dies and another guy takes his place but then the game reveals it allows dead players to be revived with points. The new MC party revive the old MC and they first let him live regular life with no memories of the Gantz but shit happens and the old MC is brought back. There is also an arc where the MC's regular girlfriend becomes a game target because she accidentally took photo of the Gantz game without realizing it and the players have fallout on whether to let her live or not. She gets killed but revived. She is never in the know of the Gantz.

The Osaka arc is great and was made into CGI movie. The semi-final battle before the final aliens is in Rome, Italy, with ancient roman god statues as the target and lot of Gantz players around the world get wiped because of the difficulty spike

I thought the characters were genuinely good after the Buddha mission. I just don't think the author ever had a plan for fully wrapping up anyone's story. So most of the cast either got a sudden heroic death or just kind of wandered off.

Screw the actual work

The game was pretty fucking good

You had the story mode which let you take Kurono through your own custom version of the anime, with assloads of decisions that change everything from your relationships with the others ro affecting how those niggers do in a specific mission

Then you have the free mode which lets you replay any scenario with any character combination you wnat, you're not forced to use Kurono either

You can choose your loadout from a few support items and weapons: X Gun, Y Gun, Rifle, Gantz Katana and you can unlock the bike

The characters all have super attacks they can use, except Kurono in Free Mode, you can even use the butter dog as your MC in free mode

The game has permadeath too, ends after the buddha foght with a round against the Vampires

Loads of multiple endings, i clearly remember the Sadako one where she starts stalking you after the end game with Kurono now terrified

Combat was good and properly reflected everything in the series (suit breaking, capturing enemies, points, the time delayed damage effect of the weapons)

Literally can't think if another game like it has ever released

Gantz is great and even at it's worst it's still 1000x better than the "I was reincarnated in an isekai with a quirky premise! #5927" gookslop that gets released today.

Ps2 was just too early to make a decent Gantz game. Hope they give it another shot.

Compared to other stuff I've read, Gantz releases were great. There was just a blip where translator changed. What I'm reading now didn't have the main character for an entire fucking year, and Berserk of course was on a fucking boat for 10 years before mangaka got vaxxed so it won't get an ending.
