A well-designed orc isn't just a human with tusks, anyways. Warcraft orcs have a huge jaw and wide mouth to support large tusks, for example. The whole "green human with tusks" thing only really applies to dogshit designs like Elder Scrolls orcs.

it's not even metzen. it's the california art school noobs who started working at blizzard long after metzen et al stopped making art for WoW.
Varian was the biggest metzen self-insert btw but everyone was too focused on thrall.

When they were making the new character models it's clear that they didn't consult the original concept whatsoever, nor did they even TRY to keep the fucking SILHOUETTE (one of the most important concepts in all graphic design) the same.

Similar stupid bullshit where the artists were clearly whiffing it can be observed on all the updated models. with the exception of Draenei, curiously. Draenei came out perfect. (then they added bullshit asspull "Light Draenei" (that's what Draenei already were lol wtf???) and Eredar (that turned good with the power of friendship))

A good example of the artists clearly using no references whatsoever is the Tauren. They gave the Tauren CLEFT LIPS like cats/dogs. They couldn't even be fucking bothered to look at cow.png ONE TIME when doing the modeling/texturing.

Why did they make orcs so short in WoW?
Grunts were like twice the size of footmen in WC3, yet in wow the orcs are smaller than humans somehow

I remember trying to level an orc in BC, but could not get past like level 15 because it just felt so laughable. Felt like playing as a green midget.
At least dwarves felt kind of stocky and fit a trope and gnomes were comic relief. But the orc models in wow were just supid.
Maybe something changed after the graphics updates they did, but i stopped playing long before those.

The silhouette on the left is better. Right just looks like a human with tacked-on tusks. The structure is way too gaunt to support them and they'd be stabbing into his own face constantly. Left gives him a way wider lower jaw to support the most prominent teeth and it looks far better.
