Are "Zorah" and the shadow racer guy the same entity or two different characters? I feel like that's gonna be key to working out what the story is about. I think Sakurai referred to Zorah as "inanimate" or something, so maybe the wish to Nova is going to be bringing it to life?

I unironically kind of like it DEPENDING on how it's implemented. There's a sort of autistic appeal to it that I can't quite explain.
I sort of liked it in brawl because the grittier style elevated the tone of the games atmosphere.

Unicron from Transformers is the same idea. He's a planet sized robot that the regular characters can walk around on, so he has lots of extra detail so you can draw an environment on him when seen from the regular characters' perspectives.

I’ll concede that this can be used well. It feels forced here to me because Sakurai is changing the established visual direction and I don’t think there’s a need to make Nova look creepier or more uncanny. It also doesn’t feel like they’re putting much thought into it, because you can see in the trailer that the cabling ports below Nova’s right eye don’t move even when the eyelid opens.

The only thing that bothers me with that design despite how good it may look as a concept is that the thing was modeled like that, given all that detail with textures, even a ''gate'' in one of the eyelids near the iris that also opens up as it opens its eyes...just for those cables and pipes under one of the eyes to not interact with the movement of the eyelid and texture.

Given that Sakurai worked on both Super Star, Super Star Ultra and now Air Riders its pretty safe to say this was always the intention.

Not that he built it from scratch in full.

I think a more visually detailed NOVA is kind of necessary when you have such a large, plant sized model. The problem isn't that he's more "realistic", the issue is that the details are half hazardly tacked onto his body without much care or intention. Its just grime, dirt, and sporadically placed metal patterns with very little cohesion.
It's a shame, because, otherwise, Air Riders visually looks fucking great. The art style is genuinely pleasing to look at. And not in a "let's pump the game with four gorrillan shaders and graphic effects" kind of way.

What I'm not seeing so far is the origin of the Access Ark.

So as far as I'm seeing is yes, Haltmann did make Star Dream, but the Access Ark is a different matter and I'm not seeing anything that talks about its origins specifically. At least so far.
