I didn't particularly like them, though I didn't play 3. I gave the battle system more than a fair chance and ended up not getting into it, and the alchemy system wasn't to my taste either, with things like slapping in a bunch of items to just fill out the effect rings and then going back via Item Rebuild and giving it better traits.

Ryza 1 is very easy and also a bit shorter than your average Atelier game. Ryza 2 is a little better. I didn't bother playing Ryza 3 yet since I really didn't care about the characters enough to play a game with them a 3rd time.
