That bullshit excuse is bullshit. Spider-man's spider sense does not "Yoink" him out of the way, it just gives him a heads up that there is danger, and, at best, a vague direction the danger is coming from, Peter still has to identify the threat and react accordingly. That is even before we take into account his reaction times and reflexes are far faster than a normal humans, so even without his spider sense he is able to react to danger quickly.
That Peter can flat out ignore his spider sense, misidentify where a threat is coming from, or just fight Venom at all puts the truth to the lie about the bullshit that, "His spider sense just acts for him and when it doesn't work he doesn't know what to do."
