Does anybody have one of these things? If you live in a country that doesn't get a lot of sunlight, or you're awake predominantly at night, does it really boost your mood? Maybe it makes you willing to game for longer or try out new games? Can it replace sunlight or is it all placebo? I was thinking of buying one since I'm a night owl and have vitamin D deficiencies.

Can you retards not plainly read that the light is UV-Free? How are you going to get Vitamin D from a UV-Free light?

>10,000 lux
That's about as bright as it is outside on a thin cloudy day. Like it would still hurt to look at the sun with that much light. No way a panel kicks out that much light. Like if you have bright LED bulbs in your home to light it, that is like 200 lux.
>UV-Free
Wouldn't help with vitamin D. You body makes vitamin D by being exposed to UV-B light. Like 5 minutes in the sun will give you all you need.

Also the sun will always trump some light panel when it comes to your circadian rhythm. If you lived in a dark cave for months, or literally do not go outside ever, not even to go check the mail or pick up your taco bell from your door step and have foil taped over all your windows then yeah maybe it might work but if you see the sun like at all then it probably won't do jack. Just having a predictable sleeping pattern with plenty of sleep is going to do you much much better. Some light panel will not be a substitute.

What's even the utility of having light that gets more and more blue?
Anonymous No.724197035 [Report]
>>724196286
The idea is that it doesn't have as much of the high end blue light, which tricks your brain into thinking its daylight, and causes your circadian rhythm to get fucky.
If you're staring at something with too much blue light 10 minutes before you lay down to go to bed, your body will sometimes have trouble winding down.
The idea being as the day goes on light gradually decreases, and your body has an external predictable reference to set things like a metabolic cycle, and when to release certain hormones.
Firelight barely gives off any blue light, its on the other end of the spectrum, red, orange, and infrared, and its been a thing humans have used to sleep at night for damn near as long as we've been "human."
The electric light bulb on the other hand, isn't even 150 years old. Its just another example of human technology advancing faster than our biology can keep up.

go back to the store and return it, it's really not that difficult. and when you go back, pick up box of bulbs and read the facts label on the side or back of the box that shows you what the color temperature and lumens is

I've been a big fan of these. $20usd for a 2 pack and you can change the light to whatever color you want. Even make them flicker like candles, sync to the TV or music, and have auto on and off timer features. I've had some for like 10 years and they havent stopped working yet.

And the sun goes down in the southern most parts of the country at like 5pm in the winter. Plus if you get a lot of overcast with weather its just this dull nasty diffuse grey glow. Depending on your work schedule its a very real possibility that you won't see the sun all week.

My first flat screen was a philips with the abilight, which was just a bunch of backlights that would change color depending what was on screen, and light up your wall. It was genuinely the coolest shit. If you were watching an action movie or something in the dark, and explosions or muzzle flash started going off the wall behind your tv would flash and it made it feel like you were watching a much bigger screen.

LED lights should last 20-40 years, depending on how long you use them per day, assuming they do not overvolt them to make them fail earlier.

idk who this clive chap is but I know they overvolt them to reduce the production cost as that is why I explicitly said that. why else would I say that if I didn't already know it was a thing?
exactly how much by, what different companies are doing, and if you are willing to make modifications is a completely different story someone can take into account in their decision making.

What you can do with a very strong light is sit under it with your eyes closed for about 20 minutes each day. This will reset your circadian rythm, tho you're just supposed to use a 200w bulb for it. Otherwise you are just going to blind yourself probably.

OP here, thanks for the clarification, everyone. I didn't even consider the UV thing. I was also considering things from a mood-enhancing standpoint, but I guess I shot myself in the foot by opening with that vitamin D thing. For the record, I have one of those standing lamps that has a bendable head, and I can put any lightbulb I want in it, have the lamp next to me and bend the head down so the lamp shines right on top of my head. I guess I'll look for a lamp that might do the trick that way when I use it for 20-30 minutes every day.

I take the burnt out bulb with me (or take a picture of it) and find the closest to matching it. There should be power (watts) and color (see >>724196262 might also be listed in lumens) listed for each bulb.

Fun fact, the camera on your phone can pick up the IR from your remote control. Turn on the camera, point the remote at it, and push a button. You'll see a bright white light because the CCD isn't limited to the human range of visible light.

Ironically they're also the ones who don't get nearly enough sunlight and need actual UV.
I had a friend in Alaska and the government subsidizes installing fake windows that simulate sunlight so you don't develop a vitamin D deficiency. They also give you free vitamin supplements.
