Mel is hot (all versions), but she lacks her brother's charisma.

Not a super powerful mary sue who is perfect in every way + the moral arbiter everyone respects and looks up to + actually the chosen one who will fix her brother's mistakes.

Character development is possible and interesting with female characters, but only if they don't start out fully developed and already the center of the universe.

Crazy women was a really popular archetype back in ~2010, the only problem was that there just wasn't a lot of those. It's still mostly an untapped potential territory because it requires at least decent writing for a character and overall writing quality has only receded with time.

good female protagonist might be estelle in Trails. I just played the remake and I thought she was a solid female character with flaws and while a bit tropey, she was simultaneously imperfect but capable in battle while discovering her feelings

The worst is a static girlboss superman beating up some chuds then womansplaining to them how their behavior is wrong and harmful to PoCs and how they should correct their actions.

Even girlboss superman is acceptable but the moment i have to exit a game is when the blue-haired feminist starts lecturing people by proxy of their mary sue on how we need to be "better men"

A while ago I tried to answer this question by making a list of every female protagonist I liked and seeing what they have in common and it turns out a good female protagonist must be one of: between the ages of 6-14, an elf, or a furry

The plot has to do with motherhood in some way. That's literally it. People will automatically fabricate her character in their heads. Do not, for the love of god, introduce a male love interest. Which leads to:
