i might as well ask here. I play a lot of 90s stuff and i use the ps4 controller and 8bitdopro. Frankly they both have subpar dpads for older games, they are too rough and feel more like buttons than a dpad which is fair i guess since most games now just use them as extra buttons. What controller has a good dpad for stuff like snes platformers/action games. I want something reaponsive and comfortable, since most stuff feels way too stiff and causes my hand to get tired.

A handheld controller sacrifices the ability to turn arm or wrist movements into something productive and you waste 2-4 fingers unproductively on holding it instead of having them ergonomically available to press buttons, gyro at least gives you back the ability to turn those arm and wrist movements into something productive that has much greater fidelity than what you can achieve with an analog thumbstick.
Dual analog is honestly much more of a gimmick than gyro is, since it doesn't actually do anything useful for most games that wouldn't be better achieved by coding in a better camera or using a better input device, like a mouse.

It's heavy, have a bunch of shit maybe epixx 1337 pro gamerz need, but I'm never swapping the thumbsticks or whatever. But the real reason it's terrible is that the control stick snapback is utterly insane. Because it's so heavy due to using magnets, letting go of the stick will make you face the opposite direction. This makes playing any 2D game unplayable and other shit only works if you really fuck with the dead zone.

>Switch 2 Pro controller

The Xbone/Series controller is a downgrade from the 360 in every way but the triggers, d-pad, and back texturing.
>ABXY now have absurd amount of travel and you can push about 60% of the way down before they ever get recognized which feels like such ass when the 360's are instantly recognized.
>Guide button is not only flush to the controller which causes issues even pushing it down but then it also has such a ridiculous travel that it can be like 80% of the way down if not further and it won't notice you're pressing it.
You can literally have a part of your finger in the button hole pushing down on it and it doesn't recognize it being pushed.
>This is a major problem on the Xbone where it's the only button for taking screenshots so enjoy constantly missing the one you want to take or it being too late when you do press it.
>Bumpers feel smaller and more cramped.
>Sticks are not only smaller but have a much worse pattering on them compared to the 360's four nubs making it feel worse to push around and push accurately, especially for long periods of time.
>Is smaller than the 360 controller so it's less comfortable to hold in general.
Also
>No gyro in general holding the entire market back because of its stupidity.

DualSense is the king of the first-party controllers so far, it just needs to fix the d-pad. If the d-pad can be like the Vita it would be the de facto best controller.

Nobody makes the modules in-house, they all buy them from the same company. The module had a redesign at some point in the late 2000's and they've all had the same fault ever since. Game companies don't care because they get to sell you a new controller every time it breaks.

Stick drift happens because electricity wears the metal contacts as they rub across them, causing pitting and spattering of metal. Its a guaranteed inevitability. The primary reason it was less common in older controllers was because they had massive deadzones and operated at a higher voltage which made it less susceptible to noise.

My Dualsense Edge does this, even though my regular Dualsense doesn't, and it presumably uses the same plastic and rubber. Yes, as another anon mentioned to me a while back, that d-pads need a pivot, the saturn d-pad literally pivots on the controllers outer shell.
I wouldnt say it exactly feels like a saturn, because its 3d printed and the d-pad itself is much narrower on the 360.

>>724503343
I cheated a bit as I had already remixed one of the separate d-pad segments per direction (pic) where the d-pad is 4 different bits of plastic I combined the two, so the saturn d-pad is pushing a much smaller version of the separate d-pad segments.

There's actual hope now that they're dying as a brand. Since Playstation, Nintendo, and PC in general (Which has access to gyro) are going to be the main target platforms for games developers can now justify utilizing it, unless Microsoft for some reason continues to somehow hold a grip over developers with their next system's controller even though the thing will functionally be a PC you can plug any controller into now.

the alternative is microsoft adding native gyro support to windows but that's never happening, it's too customizable, and existing options are already too good so they will be ridiculed for making a worse version than valve and hated for breaking compatibility
