I am slowly piecing together what you need to do for the good version of screaming sky. The achievements list a promise ending and the files attach a PR to basically a happy version of screaming sky. I haven't played since launch on normal, and can say from initial impressions of the game being too easy, the new mode is much harder teetering on the bullshit side. You actually need to use items and moves effectively to get through most fights so far (I just cleared the Ernest area barely with a full party using all my items). I am also constantly going back to the apartment home to cook food for a heal since getting items and generally avoiding enemies until I get more resources. It definitely feels more like a survival horror game with the resource economy so far and running around monsters. And my first party member was Leigh and haven't got any door recruits at all.
Some bosses do have additional phases like the first boss you encounter in cursed alongside more enemies around in general at least on the starting third floor.

As far as I can remember the game doesn't have loud jumpscares at least. I think almost always the most you get are sprites suddenly appearing or changing, just because there isn't really animations to transition them. During battles enemies tend to be a couple of static sprites that are swapped depending on the state of the enemy, so they "jumpscare" by swapping from some guy standing in shadows to some half mutated guy standing in light, but you're not going to have a seizuristic flashing screen with some guy's photoshopped face covering the entire screen with airhorns blasting directly into your ears.

I beat the game in Hard before 1.6, and it sounds like Hard is actually properly hard now on its own. Cursed sounds like hell, but the kind of hell that means you won't really get to see a lot of the new content without immense suffering.

Door encounters are set when you wake up (or 4am if you stay up)
If you want to manipulate the RNG, make a save the night before, and in a slot the morning of, to fish through the day's events
The crossword puzzle helps with this because it allows you to waste 4 hours at a time, but will stop if there's a door knock.

Why are the shittiest endings so obscure and hard to get.
The old worst ending was arguably the one where you beat the optional harder super final boss and then that causes the hamster eats the whole planet.
They added the words of power ending which requires you to do all the crosswords and enter in the password. All that effort to do the crosswords just for a fuck you ending, and a lazy one at that. Probably the second laziest after the failed ritual which was basically a non-standard game over. Didn't have any pictures at all.

What is Shadow Fred's new reward?

I think Cursed Mode has the problem of being initially a bit too punishing, but once you've got 1 party member and the ball starts rolling, I found it really well balanced
From the first floor and onward I found encounters to be at a nice difficulty where they would have long-lasting consequences for your party even when you won by draining your health and consumables, but to almost always be winnable with the tools you could find available to you. The only exception I found to this on my playthrough was the APC in the landlord's warzone, which I think is a little too difficult.
If any changes to it need to be made, I would simply revert the stats of Vincent's room enemies to be equal to non-Cursed mode so that you can do at least one room before camping for party members. Other than that it was very well tuned

I haven't played since release and got a botched ritual ending. Started a new play after and dropped it. Any recommended routing for a fresh replay? Should I spend more time in my apartment early? Are there any particularly easy floors beyond your starting floor? I was having a lot of trouble dealing with the painters but I fought them pretty early. Also had a lot of trouble fighting the taxidermy enemies in general. Once I got a full party everything was a lot smoother.

Anyway, got any tips for my return? Should I go for a cursed run even if I had some difficulty with the base game? Also did the rat get buffed? he seemed kind of bad when i recruited him in my dropped run

I seem to have stopped short of recruiting him. Here's what I did:
Go full blast telling him he's wrong and a mushroom.
Vaguely threaten him with death whenever he tries to sideskirt him being my pal.
Feed Phllippe.

I got him a day within fighting his mushroom clone.

You buy her advice cans, but you can examine her and by examining her side, you can make her walk forwards
Examine her back, learn that it belongs to Mutt and then ask him for the key
Pop her open and she'll scurry off, re-enter the area again and if you buy enough and build affinity, she'll accept the offer to move in
Juice Boxes give big affinity because they're uncomfortable for her

The telescope is broken and is locked away in a secret room you need all the planet discs to unlock (except pluto). You take that to Jasper who will fix it, then to the Sybil in Apt 35 after getting her keys from the secret room in her old apartment on the first floor (you also need to interact with the keypad in the secret area so you can ask Sybil what her passcode is).
If you give blob sybil the broken telescope, she will take it and do nothing, but apparently you can talk to her again and mention Jasper and she will give it back.

Joel and Papi are the same build with different attacks. A lot of builds are gear specific. Audrey requires you to use early on. Roaches is easy enough to get sort of early on.
Leigh has a quest that makes her high tier, Ernest is high tier if you have the rusty crown and have constant cheese access

Okay well Audrey is a tank. Roaches is a drain tank that you should probably set up with Rat Claws.
Leigh with her ring can dps for you, Ernest has synergy with Roaches. I haven't gotten Lyle yet (I want that SMG Special too much).
