RE1 has good pacing.
RE2 mostly just rips off RE1 because it was made in under a year, and when it doesn’t it is startlingly linear in design. That’s fine, I love RE2, but it’s level design and routing is weaker as a gameplay elements it’s an innately easier game in the long term.
RE3 just fails I’d say. It transparently shifts gears once the game reaches the point where development got extended and you have four really small, really uninteresting and really benign areas in a row to end the game, in contrast to the sprawling downtown.

CV’s large open environments ask more of the player, ask you to remember more, ask you to consider more, and it makes its S Rank legitimately difficult, you have to think really hard about what you go to first, what order you do it, where it would be ideal to do an item box trip, it asks a lot of the player. I would honestly say Chris’ Antarctica section is the best designed area in the game because of how open it is, how you can do everything in any order and it leaves everything to the player’s own discretion.

It is startlingly slow and boring if you cannot grapple with sprawling map design and recalling what is where, but if you can do that, it’s just really fun.

I left 8 after the Benevento house. Did I miss anything? I kinda want to finish the story before 9 comes out, but despite liking 7, 8 was mid at best, and feels like i already experienced the best part (Benevento's) which seems too scripted for a second playthrough.

In Village you have to watch a 20-30 minute cutscene and it instantly gives you a pistol with the shotgun in a nearby house.
