Yes and no. I think the extended present period was a mistake but I liked that he ultimately accepted the punishment in the end. Delayed integrity is better than most of the others in either series could reach.

I think we got the best of both worlds in that he showed that he absolutely could've gotten away with it using his Saul Goodman tactics, but ultimately chose to go down as James McGill out of respect for those his actions hurt along the way, namely Chuck and Howard. That's why the flashbacks in the finale were framed around the time machine question, ending on a scene where Chuck and Jimmy failed to connect and reach common ground. If Jimmy had the time machine, he would've gone back to that moment and tried harder to work things out with Chuck.
