Fictional horror revolving around “analog technology”. Think CRT’s, VHS, radio stations, old school security cameras, etc presenting horror scenarios in a found footage kind of way. They can be ARGs or not, but they almost always follow a found footage style and tend to be period pieces set in the 80’s/90’s.

Pretty much imagine it as if you've discovered something you shouldn't have from days long since passed. Like a serial killers home movies, or a paranormal police report, or an encounter with a monster, etc.

Remember that JP anal horror where the Carnotaurus was taunting the guy that it ate his family. Like, did the lizard get its tiny claws on a video toaster?

found footage horror basically. Except sometimes the "found footage" is tapes of TV broadcasts or classified government tapes.

Usually this means something like an instructional video on how to remove alien parasites from a human body, or a guide on how to spot skinwalkers, or some sort of possessed video tape.

I remember one where there was the time travel equivalent of a resonance cascade going on, and the world got flooded with dinosaurs and weird future creatures.

Analogue tech like VHS tapes so found footage shit generally including old newscasts and training footage or home videos.
Its more of a set dressing for a horror concept than the concept itself which is why most of the "genre" is garbage because people are stupid and shovel trash down their gullets.
>le spooky jpg with loud screamer #84 appeared in this documentary about a guy who fused to his godzilla suit!
like that's not the most ridiculous shit
