gonna be honest ive always hated video game horror stories because every protagonist is retarded. just turn the game off or delete the files or whatever. i do like normal internet horror stories but once youve read a few you start noticing all the cliches and stereotypes

I prefer video game horror stories where the horror is not "the video game is trying to kill me" but more "there's some seriously fucked up shit in this game and my morbid curiosity compels me to keep digging despite it being disturbing".
Not that the game can't be supernatural, that's fine too, just not "it's trying to kill me in real life".

Generally I like creepypastas that sound like something that could actually happen via mods or something. Fallout 3 Numbers Station or Pokemon Black are the first that come to mind. Fallout 2's Auger Quest is a lesser known one that I think also fits.

This one is pretty good.
They released a mod of their ARG creation, and the 'horror' never goes farther than, "once upon a time Mojang subcontracted development to this guy that then went AWOL and made his own very weird branch of the game.
As a criticism of the series, it clearly had an intended endpoint and then was stretched out past that because it got very popular.
