You could argue Trails is that. It's set in the "modern day" (it has smartphones lol) but the characters use a mix of swords, magic, guns and everything in-between.

same, I fucking hate urban fantasy, its a fucking abomination.
But, a story where a portal/gate/whatever connects the two realm, one fantasy, one modern world, and we see the clash of cultures between them, thats the shit I really fucking dig

I wish there was something like they took fantasy tropes and put them in a modern setting like the villainous wizard in his high tower? He's now a CEO in an office building Usually when they do "modern day" fantasy it's like fantasy races living normal lives and it's basically fantasy Flintstones where humor comes from applying modern day logic to their fantasy stuff. I want something like an epic high fantasy story except its set in the modern day.

I've only experienced GATE, and that's not good. I think it could be cool though. Something I'd like to see more of is reverse isekai where a fantasy creature in transported to the real world and has to deal with modern tech and try and not get too much attention

See, that premise is exactly why I loved the original Fallout. >the wizard in the tower with an army of orcs is a mad scientist in a vault creating super mutants >the Brotherhood of Steel is the hidden village of arrogant but honorable elves
It's so simple and yet too few people understand the genre well enough to reimagine that spark.
