I quit League as soon as I got into the Dota 2 beta, but I managed to get back ahold of my Riot account last month (apparently somebody bruteforced my shit highschool password lmao) in order to check out 2XKO. Fucking tired of /v/ nostalgia goggles for old league characters, a lot of them were just awful, corki, cho'gath, nocturne, old fiddle, old warwick and evelynn, and even some characters who are iconic like Garen, Katarina, Ryze and Tryndamere have terrible gameplay translations of what they're supposed to be.
Take it in consideration that the original 40 was a rushed job to put this game out as soon as possible and you take all of that "soul" talk out of the question.
Soul and love my ass, it was a fucking rushed and sloppy job.

Thresh and Pyke alone have more care and better plan design than the original 40.

The problem with overdesigned and overloaded champions like K'sante, Yone, Akshan is not even to play them, but to play AGAINST them.
I still don't know everything that K'sante or Aphelios do to this day, and fuck me, I don't want to learn it.

When you release an overloaded champion with such a big of a roster you're making the game bad for everyone else but the ones who decided to play them.

True, I wanted to dodge every time I saw K'sante, Ekko, or Akshan but never had this problem with champions like Hwei or Yunara.

Hwei is also supposed to be complex, but he's straightfoward and honest in his kit, unlike K'sante or Ekko, that can't decide if they do damage, if they tank, having mobility for days along with damage and peel.

I would think that the mostly anime human designs were due to Arcane being popular and trying to integrate new characters into the show more easily. Do Chinks and Koreans not like characters that aren't anime-y? I stopped playing a while ago, but really miss the more wacky characters like Amumu.
