Why was the writing in 2 so comically bad compared to Broodwar?

The correct option is to always going to be to burn down Stratholme.
Anonymous No.724586907 [Report]
>>724585893 (OP)
It makes the Protoss option the bad one, but you have no proof the doctor can even "cure" the Zerg mutations...until AFTER the mission. Before that, it's a pretty open and shut case that when the Zerg infest something it tends to get assimilated into the Swarm. So it's like they took the Stratholme dilemma and said, "well actually it can be fixed, you just gotta trust me bro"

I love this game's gameplay and its choicemaking system but I HATE its writing with the fury of a thousand exploding suns.

Because the old writers weren't writing it.
>Raynor suddenly becomes a bleeding heart and wants to save Kerrigan, killing Tychus to do so
>in spite of Kerrigan killing Fenix
>in spite of all of Brood War
>HotS happens and Kerrigan becomes infested again anyways
>then she becomes a god in LotV
The writing sounds like they got a shounen manga writer to do it.
Anonymous No.724587232 [Report]
Wings of Liberty gets a little too much hate for Jim getting cold shoulder in the last second to save Sarah. If anything, they pushed Kerrigan being too evil in Broodwars for no reason other than it was cool and edgy having Kerrigan being such a ruthless villain. Tychus was a good memorable character, as well. The main problems with the story start with Heart of the Swarm, or maybe even the protoss prophecy parts of Wings of Liberty.

I think they use the same writers for everything, which must be the WoW writers. Even fucking Diablo 4 for all of it's grimdark atmosphere has characters that feel like straight out of a disney movie, it is all way too safe, probably so they can sell it to children.

My only grip is that there were some cool units released for hots and lotv which just don't make it into the Wings of Liberty campaign since it came first.

Blizzard simply didn't utilize their excellent writers after 2003. WoW required minimal input and you could see the decline in 2009 with WotLK's "There must always be a Lich King" retard asspull.

It makes more sense in the wider context.
Zerg infection has no medical cure. Even the UED, which has tech far beyond the Terrans in Korpulu, couldn't even start to find a cure for it. Hanson is very clearly in a losing situation; she's a fringe world doctor cut off from proper medical equipment and other experts, at the head of a colossal exodus of refugees who are being actively subverted and infiltrated by Zerg forces. This isn't to say that you should write her off immediately, as she might make SOME progress researching the infested, but it's virtually impossible for her to find an actual cure.
With Selendis you're not permitting them to do the wide scale Purification, you're taking the matter into your own hands to clean out the infested settlements to try and save the ones still clean. You'd need to wipe some out, but SHOULD be able to save some, and those you save will be better off for it.
It's weighing thoeries and potential against how hard a proven fact is.

the writers of the old blizzard games were "tortured artists" and had soul. once they became successful dads they had no more grit and became disney writers without the thousand year old mythological moral stories that old disney movies are often based off of.

I'm pretty sure Metzen did write 2 as well. The problem is that he had a daughter between those two games and turned into a bleeding heart faggot himself who can't just;
>"Keep writing dark stories now that he has a daughter who deserves to read happy stuff".
No really, I'm pretty sure he said that crap in an interview.

This question is just scuffed Stratholme.
The truth of if they are curable or not depends on which side you choose, so the question is pointless. You should always choose the Terrans because you can heal them if you do.
Compare that to Arthas, who had actual stakes to consider because there was no magic "You cured them!" option

The choice that actually mattered was Tosh v Nova
>Do Tosh before Hanson
>Hanson has special dialogue about the Spectres
>She says that Nova was a lying cunt and Spectres have normal psyche profiles
>Fast forward to HotS, Nova captures Raynor regardless of whether he sided with her or not (and canonically he didn't)

This. It's a nu-video game copout without any stakes and one which always panders to the player, making sure they can do no wrong. The whole event should've had you getting assfucked like a retard because thinking you can rush a cure during a battle which has evaded scientists since the events of SC1 is a pipedream at best and delusional at worst. Both choices should've ended with the doc getting executed for going zerg and the colony being overrun by zerg or glassed by the protoss.

That's also ridiculous as anything that can be asspulled by one scientist during a short period in a pinch surely would've occurred to Dominion or protoss scientists long ago.

Anon, Mengsk wanted to use the Zerg to crush any dissenters. He specifically wanted to do what he had once blamed the Confederacy of doing, and which he had already done at New Getrysburg.
The entire reason he allows Valerian to run Mobius and collect the Artifact is because he wanted to take it for himself as an insurance policy, which he does in HotS.
Mengsk's entire M.O. is to use the Zerg as a tool to keep his already crumbling Dominion in line. Those facilities were there to study the Zerg themselves, not the Infestation.
