Video game piracy is on the rise in 2025 and now its 100% socially acceptable to pretty much all zoomers.

It makes sense, the people who usually play video games are either from north america or some other country with access to enough funds to buy a gaming PC. But games are just too expensive. You can ask someone to build a $600 1080p gaming PC thats really good, sure, but ask them to buy $1000+ worth of steam games and its too much.

If the average game costs $25 on steam. That's only 40 games for $1000 which you don't own. But most people don't have $1000 they have maybe $100 or $200 to spare if that and that needs to be spent on food.

Zoomers and gen alpha are bringing piracy to new heights because we cant afford homes or food.

I feel like nintendo fans between wii and wii u eras acted holier than though. It was easy to hack that shit and they kept screaming about nintendo needing your support, and even some retards saying how retro emulation was immoral with the newly introduced virtual console.
I bet playstation/xbox fanboys would also be judgmental though, if their systems were easily hackable.

Its great how in america we saw the old generations go from

>selfish thieves from the boomers and gen X motivated by greed but still motivated by propaganda to
>millenial neoliberals hipsters that pretend they actually care about the world and eat up propaganda to
>selfish zoomers who are motivated by poverty and the modern problems that this society isnt actually worth working for so nobody gives a shit about the law anymore or what old fags say. if it isn't enforceable to zoomers its not a law like piracy.

Most zoomers dont even pay for their own food they just leech and steal off their genX parents(like me) BASED. Fuck society we all hope it burns, sincerely zoomers and gen alpha.

Silent Generation is Lawful evil
Boomers are chaotic evil
GenX are chaotic neutral

Its popular these days and reddit is the most echo chambered platform with normies. It has over 1 million followers and posts regularly get 10-20k likes.

Pirating is mainstream now and viewed as GOOD.
The consensus that modern sheep have nowadays is if you defend big corporations and don't like piracy then you're bad.

Maybe if xbox released physical 1.0 bluray copies and marketed their games like that they'd still have a customer base.
Maybe if copyright didn't exist people would pay for games if they owned the files with an installer that steam provides.

No instead its all DRM slop and digital online that no one wants, big corpo shit.

Piracy went through a weird growing pain of entering what is essentially mainstream social media. It's always thrived on more niche places like message boards and IRC, but for a couple years you had people on Tiktok or Twitter or Discord just straight up linking to shit or giving you a step-by-step process. Some sites died because of it, and there was a lot of peer pressure not to pirate because it seemed bad and immoral

now we're wrapping back around to people feeling more 'empowered' by piracy, which is better but also bodes poorly for the future, as it likely means a return of the people who pirate but are desperate to have you believe it's for an Understandable Reason, like they're *actually* just running homebrew so they can run Linux on it, or they're *really* just downloading the latest AAA slop for games preservation purposes. and so on.

It is justified and understandable.
Copyright didn't exist for most of human history except the past 250 years, and the US government is the biggest infringer or copyright. Anglos and by association americans which are just british colonists started copyright.

Also if you copy any image online or downloaded a youtube video chances are you have committed copyright infringement. Not that it matters because it can and will never be enforced.

I have no problem with people pirating, I have problem when people try to reason or spin this in a way that it isn't, i.e mental gymnastics.
It's not moral to pirate and you know that very well as your action will move others to do the same and actually is damaging to the industry (you may somehow think about the 'ceo' but not the workers this negatively effects) which hurts you at the end too.
And it's not legal (It's disruptive nature is a reason of that), I think a lot of people online don't know what that actually means because they are likely terminally online and never have seen what happens to people who break the law.
At the end of the day you are doing something only in the self interest at the determinant of others and you need to realize this.

>[AAA] video game piracy is on the rise
Fuck no it isn't, not in first world countries at least.
Loads of ISPs send you threatening letters if you even so much as think about torrenting a game, and most consumer ISPs have upload speeds measured in text files per minute.
Piracy of games that companies give a fuck about is almost dead in the west, most AAA pirates are in countries where games cost like $500 and consoles cost more than a small house (this is why PS2s still sell in some countries, by the way.)
Doesn't matter though, game devs see the 99999999 seeders and just think "man that sure is a lot of lost sales!"

I mean sure, porn, porn games, mobile games, and indie games get pirated all the time, and anyone with an IQ above 30 knows about Kemono/Coomer because fuck paying the price of a small indie game per month on a sub where the dev just dicks around half the time, or you pay your money that month and the only thing the dev did was a gay M/M minigame, so you can't even enjoy the thing you paid for.
But AAA and AA games? You pirate one of those and you still end up getting a C&D letter in the mail despite using a """private""" VPN.

Your entire argument falls apart when you actually look at the data and that video game piracy only increases sales. According to literally every study done on it.
so yeah, people really do pirate just to try out games and if they like it, buy it, with more people giving it a go than would otherwise buy it if they were unsure.

Direct download sites are flourishing and have speeds of like 50mb/s and all use gofile, buzzheavier or fuckingfast. There's tons of direct download hosting that are specifcally for copyrighted material.

You can use cloudflare tunnel or some free vpn like proton to pirate 20 games overnight. Cloudflare doesn't report DMCA violation or copyright infringement.

You can buy a 5G hotspot from calyx with unlimited bandwith and get a dynamic IP and torrent to your hearts content.

People are already using VPNs in the US and getting used to them because of the porn site bans.

Oh no, someone pays a total for $5 for mullvad VPN and can pirate 2500 games over the course of a month

You can sell your steam account on a third party site or if you really want to be done with it to recoup the money or you can have them delete it entirely. Me personally I sold my steam account, made a new one and I only rebought the games I like to play that are exclusively multiplayer like foxhole or squad.

I mean people have already found open source alternatives to using steam itself that are on par except for the controller profiles steam has but those can be done easily with something like antimicroX for the few games that have no controller support.

Also that's a rare chance to get malware since most direct download sites like steamRIP or gog-games have been trusted and tens of thousands of people download their game archives and a lot of them are running windows 10 and are scanning for viruses.

They will if they want to pirate games safely. Not even steam is 100% safe on windows because they dont scan their games.
So linux with flatpak is still the safest way to play games anywhere pirated or not and proton and linux mint is good now.

Are we just going to forget about pic related so quickly? it just happened not even over a month ago I think.

The chance is low but never 0%, same with steam. My point is steam hosts malware sometimes, pirated games hosts malware sometimes.

Actually steam probably has more of a chance because developers at any time can do a remote update to any indie game and sneak in malware, make it download while you're away.

Pirated games its just one folder and it will never get updates and is usually the latest game version and if you scan it and it is clean along with using a reputable site like steamRIP, gog-games, fitgirl your chances are the same as steam.

shoulda woulda coulda. Me I like to be sure my PC is safe.

One of the many reason why I love my Deck. Offers peace of mind that if anything does infect it, I just use it for gaming and not something that can do any real damage.

Linux is just more secure. its not impossible to get malware on the deck if playing using the regular launcher because its not sandboxed and has access to your home directory, there could be some linux specific malware, but if you use heroic games launcher flatpak through the steam launcher your chances are basically zero even there was some sort of linux specific crypto miner. Linux crypto miners themselves are very rare and linux malware is even rarer.

Here's what modern windows malware looks like you can't even tell it's running until dig a little deeper but its good to have peace of mind. I just use arch with heroic flatpak and thats good enough for me to know I'm safe.

I use linux because its faster and runs games better with higher FPS.

Being more secure and having good sandbox software like flatpak is just a bonus and piece of mind.

When they no longer offer a nice quality physical option for collection purposes, and continue to raise prices and stack on more DLC, it’s no wonder why people just pirate.

Most of the peers I played games with were convinced police would bust down their door or they'd get a trojan from pirating, the rest were moralfaggots who didn't want to steal from devs even if that developer was a AAA company and the game over a decade old

Xbox had it good. All they had to do was just keep their entire library physical, make deals with indies to fund their physical game releases en masse which some did like outer wilds for the switch and ps4 but they didnt do an xbox version or stardew valley in a physical game case which they did for the xbox one.
Instead for the series X they just ditched their entire physical game collection, stopped making disc drive version, went all in on gamepass and now its failing spectacularly.
Steam is to blame for all this, they pushed the world for digital and it STILL isn't better than physical.

Most PC home internet connections are 50mb/s or slower in north america. A bluray disc with a compressed version of the game will still unpack and install faster than downloading it from zero and you own it. But let's be honest consoles were always shit, you can't adjust the graphics settings like you can on PC, but as a business strategy xbox is failing hard right now.
