I don't care about culture wars, I don't give a fuck about 'woke', I'm just regular fan of Obsidian that wants to see how they are doing. Pirated the game to at least check it out, wondering if they had improved on the first game.

It's depressing how boring this shit is. No charm or strong identity, characters look bland, the ships, tutorial and first planet look like barf, the villain? Is just some normal chick, and for my first real mission I have to choose between a guy with a silly hat (wow diplomacy!) and a black tough chick (wow combat!) for a conflict I don't have any reason to care about in places I have no connection to.

Even avowed, being the definition of mid, was more engaging than this, certainly looked prettier. Pillars of Eternity one and two feel like masterpieces compared to something so mediocre and uninspired (they aren't). Is Obsidian ever going to try again? Are they just gonna collect Microsoft game pass money until the well runs out?

I quit after getting that 4th companion in the second planet and doing her side mission thing. Nothing about the world feels interesting. The combat is dull and has nothing unique. You can barely make a build because they force you to use such small amount of weapons. World feels so uninspired, just the most generic thing you can spit out. It's my first time trying a western RPG and I'm at a shock how much I don't give a shit about anything they produce

Flaws feel a little heavy handed, desu. A lot of them are just straight downgrades. that "take every flaw" one is funny cause you can bait out filling up the bars to get some of the worst ones (klepto, jack of all trades) out of the way early.

Just like every obsidian game ever, the first planet feels like the highlights of the game, everything after is SO much more railroaded, linear, and less interesting.

I liked the gadgets, they were actually a nice little way to use energy and surprisingly since I had a focus on stealth the dissolver really came in handy.
Until I realized that most encounters lock an extra handful of enemies behind enemis being in alert status, and you're permanently cucking yourself out of EXP by playing stealth. Even items too, cause towards the end of the game when enemies started having 2-3 mags worth of hp for my strongest gun, and I got forced into alerts, I found fucking unique named gear in some of those little spawn rooms. Go back, sure enough, they're on paradise too. Horseshit design.

The companions didn't bother me as much as in 1. Not a fan of how they got rid of all the lone wolf perks, and replaced them with flaws. "You get 50% extra damage when solo BUT you only have one slot for party members in the future" eat a fucking dick that locks 2 characters from getting their fucking mods, and makes doing some main story quests that much more annoying cause you don't even get to fucking use them for their fucking dialogue options now that you need fucking teens and up speech and engi and other horseshit unless you have a specific comp with you

Alpha Protocol isn't exactly "good", but it does what Obsidian was best known for (dialogue, characters, choice) really well. I also think the first Pillars and Pentiment are both at least good games.

In contrast, I enjoyed the history lessons in Pentiment and Pillars' soul stuff interests me enough to keep me going, even if its other aspects are weaker.

Even ignoring how insufferably woke the first game was, it was also incredibly bland. It was a bunch of relatively small open eras filled with copy/paste monsters.

There were so few enemy types and the gunplay was just boring.
It made me realize how hard VATS carried the gunplay in Fallout. You need something like VATS, bullet time, killcams, something other than just flat shooting in a RPG unless your shooting is actually really good. I find the guns in Cyberpunk way less interesting than the melee for example but the gunplay was infinitely better than Outer Worlds.

I was a bit let down that the ledge grabbing was not as insane as in Avowed but 5 minutes later I unlocked the doublejump and holy shit it feels so good to move with it. Makes the bunnyjumping even more hoppy and they already shown plenty of spots they intend for me to use them. I fucking love platforming exploring and that was one of many reasons Avowed was so fun.
Big fan of the intense colour palette they use in this and it pops so much at night just like in Avowed. Also had a lot of good laughs at the cutscenes, dialogue and little logs already.
Yeah after Pentiment, Avowed and this I call myself a Obsidian fanboy now. Insanely good output and 3 really good games in 1 year? They really make use of the MS safetynet.
