The Elden Ring is the divine spirit Marika usurped from the old Goddess, imbued in Gold Marika collected by sacrificing her kin, the same Gold that Miquella abandons into crosses.
The physical Elden Ring is not an ancient object, but it is the manifestation of an ancient entity, the Order the Elden Beast turned into.
Marika made the Order, reality itself, a tangible object she can control and modify.
