Lawsuits take a long time to complete. This is especially true because the guy was avoiding public notice (Nintendo needed to serve his family members, and you can't even start suing until the papers are served) and afterwards, he dodged the court dates dragging everything out even longer. Two years probably isn't too strange given that it might've taken over a year to even get the papers officially served, since Nintendo would need to talk to the judge to make sure it was okay to serve family members. That's normally not allowed.
