It's really sad to say this game got me through highschool always playing it on bus rides and enjoying the character supports. I really love them despite knowing there's really nothing special about the writing besides the sheer amount and some charming aspects. I would roleplay what the characters were saying to each other on the battlefield and when they helped each other.

It is objectively a poor TRPG. The greatest fault is the awful maps. You're generally thrown within 1-2 turns reach of enemies giving you little leeway to position. The maps are tiny in relation to enemy movement ranges, meaning it is better to just not bring weaker units in as attempting to protect anyone becomes arduous. The pair-up mechanic is game-breaking and exclusive for the player on top. You can beat the entire fucking game with a single strong unit on the highest difficulty. Such playstyle is almost encoraged with Robin.
I really don't get the popularity. Hard difficulty early is a decent puzzle game, I suppose.

The best Anna in the series. Celine and Hort, who are both super cute yet opposite takes on a frilly princess. Veyle, who got let down by the main plot being retarded, but was still super lovable.
The girls were the ONE thing Engage did right, it was just hard to get invested in them when everything else fumbled the bag so hard. The maps/gameplay were both fun early on but god does the Break system and Engage attack system both suck total ass the further you get into the game.

Break is tedious as fuck later on. It's fine early and gives Armor Knights a purpose, but it makes enemy phasing a shitshow of "which enemy will move first" if you leave anyone else in range of multiple weapon types.
And Engage attacks are a fucking mess. In the hands of an Enemy they can be so threatening you don't want to fuck with them or risk losing a unit, and in the hands of the player they just invalidate most bosses by "I CLICK BOOTON" until the boss's health bars explode since they can't be counter attacked.

Thanks to Emerald getting decompiled, modern Pokemon romhacks now run on entirely custom engines that can do a shit ton of things that weren't possible prior and it still continues to get updated so it hasn't even reached its limits yet. So it's actually very promising if SS ever gets decompiled.

As a FE normie why did awakening have such in depth unit customization and conquest three houses didn't? With the parent system you could have two God rolled units and merge them into an even stronger one and the late game missions threw hundreds of enemies so it felt earned too. The other games are so flat in comparison I never got into it nearly as much. Awakening reminds me of ff tactics with the unit building rpg elements.
