It's just people copying Etrian Odyssey, after it got really popular with its first DS release. There's plenty of other dungeon crawlers, even anime dungeon crawlers, which have different artstyles and tits. But after EO got popular, there were a lot of games which were just dungeon crawlers with flat anime girls as the images for each job you can pick up.

I played through EO1 a few months ago and really liked it. Personally, it was a 9/10. The reveal of the 5th stratum Lost Shinjuku almost pushed it to 10. Hexer was probably my favorite because the cute portraits the shackle stuff was really fun. I will say that dark hunter felt more like an unlock class than hexer. As in it was a more complex class.
How did you anons feel about claret hollows? I liked how evil it was, but getting to the end and finding out you have to kill the dragons made me ragekek.

The PC ports give you better mapping tools, fix bugs, add some convenience features to the games (especially 1, paying 10 levels to respec HURTS), but otherwise remains faithful to the originals. They're also designed for mouse, unlike the originals.

For 2 it doesn't matter that much, the story has minimal to do with touhou but the only thing that might trip up people completely clueless are bonuses that have to deal with the various houses.
Like "Residents of Eientei" skill won't mean much if you don't know that Kaguya, Eirin, and Reisen aren't from the same game, but all the relevant characters will be the only one that has the skill so you can just look I guess.

Anonymous No.724707292 [Report] >>724707830
I played through Labyrinth of Refrain a while back and didn't think it was very good (I liked the variety of dungeon dungeons and enemies, but I disliked the story and that I was basically using the same team the entire time and didn't have to think about equipment/team design until the very end). I'm playing through Galleria and the 100 floor random generated dungeon twice in a row is making me annoyed, I'll stick with it since I'm 50 hours in but it's a shame that they improved the story but got rid of the neat dungeons and enemies. At least with this one you're forced to use different classes since you hit level cap during story pretty easily.

Dunno what game this is but the classic wizardry system would be to bring the whole party back to town, get to the church, pay an exorbitant price for each ressurection with a chance of failure. If you fail, the character becomes ashes, you can try to ressurect the ashes but another failure means the character is permanently lost.
It looks like a low level party though so it's probably easier to simply recruit new members which is free.

If this is a Wizardry game, then they can just go up the stairs back to town and raise them there. It'll be expensive, and it might be easier just to recruit new party members and hand their gear over, but it's easy to raise them. In early Wizardry, lives are cheap and equipment is valuable. Heck, if this is Wizardry 1-3, they can just save and exit, then make a new party on the surface and slowly bring the dead party members back to town, one by one, rather than trying to risk getting into a fight with just a 6HP fighter.

If it's another game, then hard to tell how they might handle the situation.

It has story characters, yeah, but their classes aren't predetermined and you can bring most skills/passives to other classes once they're unlocked. The only restrictions are that some skills are locked to a class to keep them with some identity and that each character only gets to change classes inside an archetype IE Mage characters have a bunch of different variations of mage that range from aoe, support, all rounder, glass cannon, blood mage, etc. The builds are sort of like Etrian Odyssey in that you eventually make a little mix class of your own, except you can't roleplay.

Most DRPGs tend to not have characters in the story, so that players don't need to worry about investing in particular characters. It also means that the game can be very mean to the characters in your party, since the story doesn't revolve around a particular one staying alive.

>I have "Dungeon Travelers To Heart 2" in my library and checked
That's the first game, because it's a spinoff of the "To Heart 2" game. The game is actually named "To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers" but since Dungeon Travelers became a series, they've renamed the first game into "Dungeon Travelers: To Heart 2 in Another World" to have it line up with the other Dungeon Travelers games.

The three games in the series are:
>Dungeon Travelers: To Heart 2 in Another World
>Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library & the Monster Seal
>Dungeon Travelers 2-2: The Fallen Maidens & the Book of Beginnings

Steam let the first game onto the storefront and banned the second two, which is why they're only available for purchase on Johren. Well, "purchase". It's not much of a purchase if you install it three times and then need to buy the whole thing over again.

Holy fuck, I'm surprised that is the actual name.

Also, $50? That's quite a high asking price. I'm generally fine with splurging a bit on occasion, but there's a limit on a game I'm not at all familiar with. Plus, I'm not seeing anything exceptional that makes it different from every other Etrian Odyssey clone out there, with basically all of them being cheaper. That's the same price as Labyrinth of Galleria, and at least that has a story and a 15-character party to offer something different - and I'm not in a rush to pick up Labyrinth of Galleria either.

Well it's not common to have relationships with party members, so that sort of narrows it down. Persona 3+ have party member relationships, and kind of a heavy story, but I'm guessing that's probably not what they meant. Something like Wizardry Busin (Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land on PS2) has a fairly dark story going on, but the party members are just blank slates and the occasional NPC doesn't have involved interactions with the MC.

I guess Oreshika could kind of fit here. It's not so much building a relation with characters in the party, as much as you collect gods and breed party members with gods to produce new party members, investing into them and the gods they get related to. I'm not sure how dark or deep the story is in that game.

That isn't a fair characterisation, Drpgs very often (maybe even most often) have garbage random encounters that are reused because they aren't the point most of the time and the game is aiming for a different kind of approach then most in the genre as well. Mon-yu is basically a little puzzle game in the form of a drpg, the core concept is turning a dungeon crawler into a "challenge" run. You choose from three difficulties each time you enter a dungeon and then you're encouraged to beat the dungeons with restrictions to earn rewards based on your performance. Easy starts you with full map + minimap and the highest level cap for the dungeon, then Normal and Hard have restricted map access until you find a Map Beetle inside the dungeon itself and much lower level caps. For example the first dungeon was Easy = lvl 7 cap and Hard = lvl 3 cap.

When you actually do clear the dungeon you're given a rating like Devil May Cry depending on how well you did. It counts map exploration, the average level of the party and how many turns it took to defeat the boss. It encourages more aggressive set ups than the usual newbie trap of relying only on tanks and taking risks more often, makes you engage with the game more by rewarding the player.

It is absolutely on the easier side of drpgs and don't buy it for $50, but calling it shit is an overstatement. I'd say it is a good introduction to the genre.

Why are you back here asking the same question again? Anyway I'm autistic enough to respond regardless, it is 100% worth playing. I think the battle of attrition buff vs debuff aspect of the boss battles is engaging and the story while cliche is played in a completely earnest way that's very charming. The sequel somehow bucks the universal trend of being worse or a side grade and is a way better game in every single aspect with a postgame expansion so big it might as well have been a third game. There are definitely much better dungeon crawlers out there from an objective point of view, but there's not very many of them that handle every aspect of the genre well at the same time like this one does. It's possibly one of my favourite games.

Literally nothing, he's just some homo mad the game has an optional story mode because Gladsheim is stuck behind it.
MG is fine, especially if you prefer playing with dual screens.

Just know that the Classic mode is how all entries normally play, not the Story mode. Though the story is not as bad as people say, you'll have somewhat skewed expectations with it.

>dungeon crawler idler
Why would I want to watch a CPU play a dungeon crawler? The point of these games is to explore a dungeon and to manage fights to get thru them or back to town. If I'm not doing any of that, what's the point?

I had an idea of using an auto-battler function and party manager type of game with socializing aspects with your waifu party VN style in a Fantasy Adventurer life-sim once even before u/ma was a thing.
Gameplay loop: You got 4 days to train/socialize and 3 days on the weekend to quest and raid dungeons, stats determine your party's outcome. Skill uses are entirely dependant on stats and luck. It would work as a nice game.

2U ended up in hot water with the JP fanbase because it had paid DLC. Possibly led to no EO3U because of it, despite them teasing it in supplemental material showing a certain character from 2U washing up on the beach in front of a character from 3.

>but it only has two NIS titles from the same series
>others are by Experience inc including two versions of Stranger of Sword City when there's no reason to play the original
>the rest is just artbook type dlc
The bundle is kind of silly, there's no relation at all besides NISA publishing the western versions iirc. All those other games are great on the original hardware, but I don't know how their pc ports turned out.

Savior of Sapphire Wings is the first game. It was originally released as Students of the Round a few years before Stranger, Savior is a remake of that. Regardless you want Revisited bundled with Savior Wings since it's the definitive version, and it doesn't really matter what order you play them in.

>nta but isn't Savior technically a prequel to Stranger?
Stranger is the sequel to Savior, yeah, but not in a way that matters for the overall experience. Basically they are set in the same world and you'll get fun references if you play Savior first, but Stranger takes place something like 200+ years later and as such their actual main plots aren't directly related. The same is true of Demon Gaze which takes place many years after Stranger, in that game for example all of the best equipment you can find is the gear of the legendary heroes that you play as in Savior.

It's neat in that you can track the background lore of the world throughout the games like the lives of major lore characters such as the Neutral God/Dragon King, Spirit God, Ol=Ohma the dark lord's descendants, etc. But all it really amounts to is fun fan theories like whether Quasar in Demon Gaze is actually Lucifel and how he's connected to the Alien "God" that shows up.
