The controls are fine, the mechanics and level design are mid. The sliding difficulty isnt implemented well, the voice acting hurts replay value. Too many weapon options. A more linear game that is intentionally designed is preferable

OP is mocking people who post "these are my favourite games" and post the exact same 25 games over and over again. It's the equivalent of top 100 games ever made by journalists, or youtubers saying their favourite game is OoT.

There's no personality or indivuality to these lists. There is no consistency. For example someone who likes deus ex would probably like some of its sequels, systemshock, thief, or prey. Someone who liked Super Metroid would probably like the other games in tbe franchise, or other 2D platformers, or other SNES games. Some people like flawed games despite its shortcomings because the fun parts were enjoyable. Maybe they don't want to admit but had fun playing frowned upon mutiplayer games like overwatch.

Yet in OP's list you don't see this sort of pattern, and feels like an assortment of "most critically acclaimed games" from each genre. As if they only have surface level knowledge of each genre, or is choosing only games they know "the cool internet kids" would approve. Same with topsters from other boards like /a/ or /tv/.

The games that didn't sell that much are almost exclusively low-budget and low-quality, not some epic le hidden gem. Popularity isn't a direct correlation with quality, but at the same time it's damn near impossible to have a high quality game that doesn't at least spread among enthusiast circles.
