on every UE5 Skyrim "how it's supposed to look" video. Apart from the vast scale of those renders I don't particularly like the way UE5 makes everything look samey with subdued colors (usually a single tone over the whole damn landscape) and very pronounced shadows and a dark feel.

So the horrible ghosting and spots is framegen? I really do hate that shit in modern games. I remember trying it out in Darktide and it turned the holographic displays into a 70s radar scope whenever you moved.
I understand the idea behind the technology, its so potatoes can run at higher resolution than they're capable of. But it seems like the industry treats it as a "premium" feature? Why would I care if a flagship card has a feature aimed at poverty PCs?

Colors and lighting are off. This is what happens when you have games made by people who use photos and videos as reference instead of going outside.
The trees and the shadows on the truck are too dark for how bright the sky is, exactly something a phone camera would capture.

I just completely turn off AA completely and play in 4k and zero framegen cancer and voila, all good.

This person does not have a 4k monitor and does not play UE5 games. UE5 games are so dependent on temporal rendering and all its quirks that they look like total garbage without some kind of temporal layer. There are very few exceptions.

I would say that UE5 has reached the very beginning edge of being uncanny and thus unappealing for gaming. The lighting doesn't help. It's neither realistic enough, stylized enough, nor cheap enough to justify. It's just lazy and easy.
