"beta" implies that they've finished coding their game mechanics, but they haven't.
They're still in alpha, and the reason it's taken so long is because they're trying to do alpha shit with completely finished models and systems, which forces them to throw out all their previous works on things when they don't function with the newly added systems.
At this point most of the game should still be stand in models and proof of concept ships, not fully rendered things that you'll have to change later.

>uncs
Zoomer ADHD blender-brained nonsense incoming. I'm sure some parasocial video maker gave whatever list of opinions on on this, but its nothing new and is just eye rolling to hear people who fall over themselves for shit far more predatory, like gacha, somehow upset about SC.

The short answer though is that its far from a scam, and there's nothing else quite like it. If they can manage to make it to release without fucking up or going back on original promises about monetization, then it will be phenomenal. I spent my original backer couple of bucks way back when and I've had more fun with the alpha than 90% of games in the interim.

One big factor is that you have to give a shit about what the game focuses on - immersion. If you don't give two shits for the difference between
>Press E, magically transport from outside the ship to the pilot seat ready to take off
>Press E on the button to lower the ramp or ladder, press E again to climb and/or raise the whole thing walk through to the cockpit and fully animated getting into the seat, go through a startup sequence where you turn on the engines, flight computer, and signal to the tower for permission to take off which opens the doors of the hangar
then its not the game for you. If the latter thing sounds awesome to you, then it is. Its kind of like how some people are into advanced milsim with survival mechanics or some digital train set with fully accurate everything and some dont care. Star Citizen is for immersion and a MMO space sim (on the SC side, the Squadron 42 side is the Wing Commander type single player story game) and it does things unlike pretty much anything else, and on a scale unprecedented. The resources and amount of shit you need to deal with on a tech level to make it happen are tough - this is the reason there aren't even in an age of knockoffs, trying to "do SC right" if it was just "mismanagement" because why bother if they shit out a gacha/item mall simpler game

I would say it's worse. They buy the Remakes/Remasters despite censorship and obvious glaring issues as a whole. Also they think Maturity = Movie games because just look at Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid Remakes selling well despite the fact they are far worse than their originals. They do not have as much time to play vidya anymore. They are stuck in the past at the extent they are holding gaming back as a whole.

I bought in back in 2012. Also he was always an autist who wanted to make the most immersive space sim ever (its the reason that Freelancer's good parts were different from others at the time and to a degree, Wing Commander), but it wasn't just him or scope creep it was that once they got the original crowdfunding 30 days (I believe it was only a couple hundred thousand requirements, and around 6M or so which had blown past every kickstarter to that date. 2M on KS itself, 4M on the site directly) basically Roberts asked the community
>Do you want us to keep going or just stop and make something more limited?
and overwhelmingly for the next several YEARS the scope of the game changed in line with the amount of contributions they got. It wasn't just like a couple of autists spending a fortune, it was the entire backer community. Keep in mind that they were around 6M after the first month, and over the next 3-4 years were past 65M after which they no longer counted one new 'feature' per 1M raised since it obviously wasn't working that way. However up to that point the scope of the game wasn't set. I remember that one of the 10M or 12M stretch goals was
>We'll build our own latest generation performance capture studio, instead of renting time at an existing one. Then it will be cheaper in the long run and we can keep updating shit.
So yeah, it wasn't just scope creep because of one autist, it was a whole community who overall wanted a
>Lets see what we can do without any shackles to make something a major publisher would never okay.
experience. Also, for the first 4 years or so, ANYONE Who wanted a refund because it wasn't just a Wing Commander w/ Freelancer online mode side game anymore, got one. Up until Derek Smart basically got salty that his Battlecruiser9000 series game didn't get as much interest as Roberts so he demanded everyone chargeback campaign etc.

It's not a generational thing. There was a particular transitional period where everyone who was on the internet at the time bought into a dream. Many games came out properly, many more scammed. Scam Citizen survives because it's a dream game to many so they can't let go, and it's turned itself into the next form of scam game, early access slop, which still thrives to this day.

No I am a early Millenial and I can tell you Boomers have ALWAYS had everything given to them and they have never been effected as badly as Gen-X through your generation and Gen-A. I can give notable examples
>Boomers never had to learn Trades they were trained on site and had paid training when they were in high school
>Even during the "Great Recession" and the "Dotcom" bubble burst, they could easily move to one job to another after it stabilized
>They always spoke about working LONG and HARD but they were working Part-Time or Full-Time and managed to save enough money for a home within 5-10 years with good interest rates
>Always find themselves in the top executive spots of every company and being given roles they were not even qualified for
>Always write in Job Qualifications of needing 15 years of experience in Job, or needing Photoshop, C++, etc etc when Boomers never needed to learn that
>Barely knows how to use a PC let alone email or Internet yet are in positions of being able to hire and fire people
Meanwhile everyone else was screwed multiple times.
>Gen-Xers could not get into executive positions due to Boomers never letting go of their roles so they were relegated to having to do Startups and make their own businesses to do what they wanted to do
>Millenials right when they were about to graduate and Boomers were slowly about to retire the "Great Recession" hits and thus pushes Boomers retirement back a decade and barely any could afford homes, let alone get any good paying jobs due to the above, or anything passed for those who are disabled in that generation to work full time
>Gen-Z Not only can not afford homes, not only can not work jobs, but everything is outsourced to death and still Boomers make money
Boomers are literally in our way. They still occupy the Senate in America which is why we have not seen real progress overall and people that are catering to our general interests.

Lots of us who prefer SC also enjoyed Elite Dangerous but discovered it was a million miles wide and an inch deep. There's a reason there's a lot more interest in Star Citizen but your particular interests may depend on what you want to do in the game, story, mechanics and more. For instance, they had a solid FPS style (out of ship) gameplay even in the alpha, in a way that was completely cumbersome in ED as long as they've done it. ED basically is
>Why don't do they do SC, but do all the traditional shit the traditional way
and there's a reason it doesn't come to the same end. SC is not perfect by far, and its incomplete, but they are building massively advanced systems on a large scale and if you enjoy that, you may enjoy it The recent expansion in the alpha of medical gameplay mechanics is neat for instance.

Anyway, they have "free fly" events every so often when those without game keys purchased can play for free. The only downside here is that the userbase is usually a massive glut (think much like a new MMO's expansion release) so the servers have more trouble than normal play. If you find you think its promising in any way, then buy a key/game package and that's all you need (except a key for SQ42 which is a separate game. Some ancient legacy packages like mine have them included). Note that pretty much since its inception, the whole
>buy shit early, it will be cheaper and you'll get free widgets
has been true. I know people who bought a $30 package in 2014 or so and have been playing with that since then and got all kinds of other shit along the way. Anyway, give it a try. Mid to late Nov is the
>IAE
in game and store/website even when a lot of other stuff is made available for free to try including a ton of ships you would otherwise have to unlock in the alpha by playing and earning alpha cash etc. So yeah, good luck anon. I have fun with it - it feels like an oldfag MMO with a good community.

Now that's nowhere near true. All the great stuff came from Roberts, but the issue was that he didn't want to STOP adding great stuff and MS did so they could just ship the thing. He wanted to spend forever making even more in depth things and it wasn't that kind of game, but the reason we have /v/lancer and its remembered as fondly is mostly Roberts mechanics . There were plenty of space sims back in the day and many were more forgettable. Hell, I remember when there was the Earth and Beyond MMO - space games weren't 'rare' back in Freelancer's days, or the previous Starlancer.

Yes there was, you were just too stupid to realize it.

The man made a good games 20 years ago by the time the project was launching and that's already a huge knock. Because what had he done recently? A bunch of okay space games trying to capture that Wing Commander lightning in a bottle a second time? Or what about after that, where he spent years making movies as a grift to extort money from the German government? Yes, he accidentally produced a good movie. Emphasis on accidentally.

You saw some washed up has-been who had spent the last few years of his life being a conman launch a kickstarter, and your nostalgia for wing commander kicked in so hard that you got suckered by the most obvious scam there is.

Crowdfunding is the biggest modern scam. Why would you fund the bill for a video game? The whole idea of developing any product is risk. It's why when people go on the show Shark Tank they have to prove to the sharks that your product is worth funding. But nah, video game crowdfunding is "trust us bro we made that good game in the 90s" when every single fucking time it ends up being garbage.

I kinda doubt those are the people buying remakes. Why would you buy a remake if you bought / played / own the original? Maybe if it's some MP game and you buy it hoping to play the revitalized MP or something, but other than that I don't see a reason to pay again to replay what you already own or beat anyway. The people buying garbage remakes are going to be the kids who heard of a game by reputation but have not played the original and can't be fucked to get an old game to work or to emulate, or people who were around when the original was out but simply didn't play it at the time and are grabbing it now for similar reasons. Those who actually played the original when it was new are the people complaining about how the remake invariably shits things up, the newcomers don't give a shit since they haven't played the OG in the first place.

they idolized niggers, stole from other cultures and constantly blame older generations for all their short comings.

I think its the first time ive seen a generation became irrelevant before being....well relevant. Their cancer in gaming is already over (2018-2025) and all their trends failed. Now we need to get rid of the woman still working in the industry.

Its not only gaming btw, they failed in culture, sports, studies, everything. Before their failed generation it was unthinkable to see a 30-40 year old man clap a 20 year old retard in physical and mental acitvities, now its a common occurrence. Theres a huge gap between 1994 - 2005 and alphas are gonna have to pick that weight. There is no easy way in life, men are made to struggle.

>Why would you buy a remake if you bought / played / own the original?
Because they were happy when they played the original and think playing the remake will make them happy again. Some are just addicted to consumerism, some are chasing that childhood high, some believe that by buying the remake they support the franchise/genre and it will get new games or some other form of brand loyalty
>Those who actually played the original when it was new are the people complaining about how the remake invariably shits things up
Most people are not that passionate about games anon, they either don't remember, don't care or will say the remake is better because it has more bloom or hyper realistic HIRE THIS MAN graphics since those appeal to normalfags. It's like movies (or entertainment in general), most people just like to watch them, the percentage of people actually passionate about them is far lower

This whole reply chain is in response to >>724666850, I'm only talking about this specific type of person, not everyone who buys a remake
>San Andreas demake
A massive outlier that looks like a cheap mobile ripoff. Most remakes aren't that ugly, they look decent at first glance to the type of person who only plays AAA games. I know what counts as "doesn't look like shit at first glance" is subjective but you have to agree Dead Space and MGS Delta remakes, even if you don't like them and I sure don't, are still miles ahead of shit like GTASA or Warcraft 3 remakes. They use the newest Unreal Engine, they have realistic graphics, they have modernized controls etc
If you're passionate about video games all of those are massive red flags, but if you don't care then it just sounds like "game I loved but with all the improvements the industry made in the past XX years!"

No one cares in general since video games and shit like anime have been normalized as sources of post-work relief. The only time you will get shit for it is if the shit you're looking at is some objectively weird shit .

>It's only White Women who think they are top shit and believe their opinions matter when they can not even cook, clean or have any personality or interests.

Because your average white woman is a product of feminism and most white men deal with it because of the pussy and their desire to move up in society and be seen as a leader (even though that will never happen for most of them). In the Western world, marriage is an aspect of business not of love or even of duty towards ones family. There are exceptions of course, but they are few and far between. Non-Latina white chicks are overrated.

Spontaneously it feels like making a good sequel to Freelancer would be pretty fucking easy. The gameplay loop that people liked is already there, and the original Freelancer is easily not as good as most people claim once you actually dive deeper into it. Essentially all they need to do is expand the traversible universe, write a good enough new story, and make the trading and side quests actually work.
