I just played this game for the first time and had to force myself to put it down after roughly four hours.
I can both see why this game is so beloved and why it may also be overrated.

Nah, I genuinely enjoyed it, loved it.
Again, only played four hours. But I rarely play a game four hours in one sitting.
But I can see why someone that already played numerous survival horror games might not be so impressed. The enemies aren't that scary, the puzzles are nothing new, it's largely a keycard hunt and quite linear (so far, at least).
Maybe it's one of these games that just really needs to vibe with you.

Cute anime lesbians go pretty far. Fascist sci-fi aesthetic and eldritch horror takes it further. Gameplay is serviceable, and the story remains ambiguous enough to allow for some interpretation with the illusion of complexity (this is a good thing, illusory complexity is peak). From an artistic standpoint it's well done, it doesn't overstay it's welcome, and it uses the medium of video games without trying to be a movie. I think if they make a sequel with a larger scope I would be seriously interested.

the atmosphere and general style are very kino, the gameplay is alright, the story seems ambiguous/needlessly jumbled which usually makes me fear that it's just not very good and they want to create this illusion of depth
my biggest gripe so far is the item limit which just extends playtime by needlessly running back and forth opening doors and shit, it's not all that well thought through

It wasn't thought out, it was used as an excuse for poor game design, solely because older games used to do it.
I loved the atmosphere and music, gameplay was boring and the character's story is interesting but the plot itself is contrived.
