The funniest shit is how Deus Ex had some dude run textures through an AI program like 8 years ago to make a better textures mod, and that mod looked fine while sticking to how Deus Ex looked. The ugly remaster is a modern marvel of outsourcing to some sea studio that didn't care and didn't even do as well as an AI.

I mean, the original looks like it's very obvious designed around looking dark with baked in exaggerated lighting effects. The remaster looks like an offbrand UE store asset.

Honestly, it's some weird stuff, like they decided to push UE1 to maximum with specular, normal(?) maps, and probably skeletal animation to achieve 2003-05 look, but they don't have the resources to make those improvements look good

Do you mean to some new iteration of it? It is already in UE. You can pull down a console and do all kinds of things in it. This is also why wrappers and other fan additions took off so well for it.

Is Deus Ex the most mismanaged property today?
>Produce one of the most timeless and influential games of all time, refining a new genre in the process
>Sequel is equal parts ambitious and phoned-in to facilitate a console release
>get a prequel 10 years later that's even more dumbed-down
>half a dozen spin-offs that add absolutely nothing of value to the setting and sell like shit
>first "remaster" is just an AI upscale of the shovelware PS2 port

this doesnt work because they just keep doing this again and again regardless of if you like it. instead of doing anything you do like- they just keep doing this instead, thats how we got here you fucking idiot.

HR isn't quite dumbed down. It's just very safe and technologically butchered. They had very harsh constraints in both what they could do with the world and story without breaking consistency too obviously, as well as in how much freedom HR could offer while looking pretty enough for the intended audiences of contemporary console users.
IW suffered from the latter and obviously even more so, but the story and world being only okay is entirely on them not knowing how to expand well from what they've created. Rolling all of the original;s endings into one where they all sort of kind of happen but not really is a perfect warning of what's coming after that.

I feel like remasters have a bad tendency to have artistic illiteracy because the artistically literate WOULDN'T make these sorts of remasters to begin with
They'd rather focus on making actual new stuff
It reminds me of how stuff like films and comics have piss poor remasters and re-colors because the people in charge have a narrow understanding of what makes something "better"

He should be trained better than he plays, but ultimately there's a tradeoff between that and RPG mechanics. There isn't really a perfect solution. Maybe giving you more skill points to start but giving you less as the game goes on, so it evens out?

I do think that Deus Ex could use a remaster, but it would need to be a good remaster made by people who truly love and care for the original game. People who understand why Deus Ex is iconic, who would be able to keep everything that makes it good while patching up its weaker and aged aspects (like controls).
