What's even good about it? Seems like a generic RPG

It's putrid shit filled with dei garbage

I feel like I'm coerced into playing a nice guy doormat that agrees with everyone

It's the same with most RPGs. When it comes to choices in dialogues, I feel coerced into just agreeing with everyone and never pissing anyone off.

I won't kill anyone cause I might miss on a companion.

I won't piss a companion off cause they might leave.

I won't make a NPC angry cause it might lock me out of a sidequest.

I won't steal something cause it might make a faction kick me out and I miss on everything related to them.

Does anyone else have this problem? How do you leave this mindset? I like choices in games but it if feels like some choices just lock you out of content, it doesn't look like an actual choice.

The Forgotten Realms are the “generic fantasy setting” par excellence.
Game is good if you don’t mind the mechanics ripped from Divinity OS, and the butchered D&D rules.

It is generic with too much overtly sexual shit going on that was used as a selling point in the early access marketing. D&D in forgotten realms will always be generic as it really helped set the kitchen sink gold standard. Still, it has quite high polish and plenty of ways to make big choices that all ultimately lead down the same road (bar 1).

the amount of voice acting is genuinely impressive and it's very good. The combat is pretty fun too. Not the best but it is enjoyable. Also, it's multiplayer which is nice imo.
The plot is tolerable. I've decided I hate most modern fantasy and BG3 is fairly iconic. Earlier DnD kept the traditional fantasy aesthetic of white european and then added expansions with other lands for asian, middle eastern, etc environments and fantasy themes. You could mix and match it up how you wanted. Modern fantasy is globo homo fuel where all the races of the world are dumped on top of each other in vaguely european themed fantasy environments, which just makes the world unbelievable by its own internal logic. If you dumped all people black/brown/white on top of each other, after a few generations everyone would just meld into some shade of brown and you'd lose the diversity shitlibs crave for their little head pats. That, or one group would start showing in-group preference, which would prompt other groups to, which would likely lead to violence and genocide- which frankly, would lead to a much more interesting lore backdrop to the world.
Basically, you have globo homo shitlib orthodoxy wearing the skin suit of fantasy that's held together with stellar VA and fun combat.
Also, the chicks are pretty cute/hot.
I recommend on sale but not full price.

It's just fun and accessible. "Accessible" in this case means that you don't have to make a new character 20 times to figure out what exact bullshit you need to have ticked off on your character sheet in order to be allowed to progress past the first 5 hours. Helps that they put a lot of effort into environment design so that every encounter isn't on a flat plain meaning that jumps and pushes actually do something useful.
