My last AMD card was the HD5770. The drivers were so shitty back then that I never returned to team red.

AMD, an RX 6700 XT specifically.
I came from an RX 480 8GB, but that died at the peak of the crypto shitshow some years ago.
The choice was either paying 2-3 times MSRP for the handful of Nvidia GPUs that weren't out of stock or getting AMD for "only" several hundred eurobucks more.
Assuming prices aren't blown up like back then I am fine with either Nvidia or AMD to be honest.
Currently I am only 100% in the AMD camp when it comes to CPUs.

the only reason to buy amd is for the open source drivers, amd can't make drivers themselves.

Nvidia. I used to like ATI and had a couple of AMD GPUs but the drivers just fucking suck. Now the drivers suck and stop being made after 3 years, absolutely retarded. I don't see myself ever buying another AMD card, especially after this shit show of dropping the 6000 series so early. Like what, you buy a 9070 XT today and they drop it in 2028? Fuck that.

have only ever had one driver issue with AMD despite using various cards over the years. it was related to using two monitors with different refresh rates, it got fixed within a couple of weeks. literally zero issues otherwise.
meanwhile all my friends who use nvidia are having constant problems with dx12 and UE5 games. often times i can't play games with them uninterrupted without one of them having some issue.

no one is a waitfag anymore ever since the crypto bullshit drove prices sky-high, they've never dropped so there's no fucking point in waiting, if you find a card that's good enough for what you want at a price you can afford then you have to go for it because even "old" or used cards are stupidly expensive

It's the little shit like nonexistent hardware anti-aliasing if you wanna play older (DX9-and-under, OpenGL) games with some kind of forced AA, my Fury was the last AMD card I had, and the AA options in Crimson/Relive were just for show, and I needed to use RadeonPro to get the drivers to remember AA is a thing. Whereas Nvidia's like
>4x4+8xMSAA? SGSSAA? Sure, we can still do that shit

ATI/AMD was never great with AA though, with some of their official fixes being
>Just rename the .exe to Oblivion bro
for drivers randomly forgetting how to force AA, hence why smart people did barebones driver installs while letting ATI Tray Tools (and then RadeonPro) take over the rest
Anonymous No.724698590 [Report]

it's no different to nvidia's support lifecycle. nvidia just claim to support longer with "security updates". the actual driver updates are the same 3-5 year window.

I've been wondering about this, what's the cheapest you can get that still functions as a regular PC.
I think getting a Pentium with integrated graphics will still be enough for everything other than triple A gaming. Meaning the cheapest Windows computers would cost around 300 to 400$. Best brand for this is likely Minix from China.
