They don't even have like a stupid GBA to Gamecube thing to make them weird curiosities. If you wanted pure visual fidelity, you'd go with the Xbox versions as a couple of them were 720p.

1+2 plays very well, almost exactly like THPS4. 3+4 is kind of fucked, though, not nearly as polished with a lot of small bugs that ruin the flow.

As far as Tony Hawk games it has to be Tony Hawk 2. Skating games as a whole then the original skate.

1+2 is fun, I enjoyed it. 3+4 is seemingly the same but I actually didn't like it much. Got bored and frustrated with the maps and the combo timing felt wrong/different so it was more difficult for no apparent reason.

I can't really go back to other skateboarding games after playing a ton of Session. Skate 3 was a lot of fun though and I will always have a special place for Tony Hawk 1 and THUG 2.

American Wasteland had the best controls and tricks. It was just fun to skate around in it.

Best maps. Best tricks. Only redditors care about muh underdog story from THUG1, you start playing and are instantly the best in all the Tony Hawk games anyway.

I was a contrarian so when everyone preferred Tony Hawk i liked Dave Mirra BMX 2 but if you actually play it now, it's pretty arse. It controls badly, a bunch of the goals are awkward and balanced poorly, all the gaps are impossible to find. Has an insane soundtrack though iirc

3 is the best but AW has a certain vibe and aesthetic that explains why they went that route. I think they wanted to capture that scene and time in a THPS game and people just couldn't understand.

Project 8 invented the Skate mechanic people forget.

Airblade was cool.
Jet Set style of games, are weird-
OG was on the more rigid side, and the style came into just mastering the level design to a T.
Future allowed for more aerial course-correction, boosts allowed you to go faster, grind tricks keep down down time.
Then you get Indie's like Bomb Rush that ALMOST get it right, but is a bit slow even at top speed, but has a good manual and parkour system.
Didn't play Hover.

I actually only ever saw a friend play this as a kid, then recently played it. Was a bit pissed by the baby control, saw the 'pro' controls, and immediately saw the charm. It's cute, pretty barren in NPC is my only complaint, for a baby Hawk it's pretty good.

This is the best extreme sports game ever. The new Skate has the best gameplay ever, THUG1 is also great but it comes down to taste, and Aggressive Inline is also a classic.
In terms of challenge Dave Mirra 2 and Aggressive Inline are the best ever.

I will say, American Wasteland's Bike controls like a bike, people just hated it cause they wanted to be on their board, and the guy usually just throws bike missions at you at random, after long gaps of getting used to boarding.
