While I do like three FFs more, VII does have the best protagonist, the best party, second best NPCs, best villain roster and the third best main villain. VII's characters are very strong.

The creator of final fantasy got fired after the movie flopped. He created all of the FF games except 7 and 8.
FF1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, and 16 have absolutely no cultural impact or influence whatsoever and are just churned out shovelware game ala yearly Call of Duty. But 6, 7, and 10 clearly resonated with gamers. And 11 and 14 are another thing entirely

FF7 fans love to boast about "cultural relevance" but they know deep down that nobody here would "discuss" FF7 without Scarlet, Yuffie, Tifa and femboy Cloud gooning.

The people who took over the reins after Sakaguchi's departure have indulged in different ways, and Kitase and Nomura will use every trick in the cinematic-universe playbook to keep FF7 going.
