He'll be in the bottom portion of the map, hide behind the couple and then when they're close to him, run up behind him and mash circle. You'll probably wanna use savestates. They're rpgs.

1 is the closest to a traditional jrpg, 4 is right behind it because it's very much based on 1's structure.

2 leans harder to being basically an SRPG. 3 rolls back some of it to rpg like. I admittedly never really did play 5-6 so I can't say much about them.

the battle system is different from your usual JRPG, basically you tell the characters what to do and they act based on it. Not menu based. Closer to a RTWP system more than anything. There's also usually an objective in important battles, they can be varied and quite different from the usual "kill everything" approach

You also do have the chance to make the MC act however you'd like via choices in the dialog. In some later games (and technically the PSP version of 1) they even lead to completely different branches in the story. In general your choices do matter in this series because they affect quite a bit of things.

As for changing disk its like the other anon said, once you reach that point the game asks for you to save then gives takes you to the ingame change disk screen but I think I remember the PSP would auto change after you hit X or any other button. If not then you can just hit the PSP's home button can force change to the next disk.

Ir's really weird, It feels like that arc should be further in the game after you got more acquainted with the world and be a bigger deal. You could have a nice build-up about this old mysterious race that from rumors due to sightings is not extinct but just keeps out of humanity's reach by their own choice.
It's even more puzzling because I think I'm pretty far in the game already and so far they just haven't come up anymore.

Finished Growlanser 2 like 2-3 years ago and a couple weeks ago Growlanser 4.
Its such a shame that games like that are not made anymore.
I'm not really a fan of those recent coomer gamers either. Its like their only selling point.
Growlanser games had also huge fanservice with extra cds etc. Imagine being alive during that time.

Somewhat related to the first game.
So the protagonist of the first game has no default name. He is basically the player and silent protag.
Then comes Growlanser 2 and it gives him a name (And the surname of the family) Carmaine Fallsmyer.
HOWEVER, its worth to note that while thats his canon name, you can still name him whatever you want (first name only) if you talk to an npc at the start of the game.
GL3 has a feature where if you complete Growlanser 2, you can carry the entire cast sans 2 characters to GL3.
Here you can see in my pic how the protag of 1 and 3 have custom names.
However GL2&3 removed the nameable protag feature in the US release by Working Designs, seemingly to avoid the issue of the dialogue referencing their names.
Since I'm a huge self inserter I had to play these in Japanese for the proper experience.
