Bro, c'mon. I know this is bait, but still. One of the biggest selling points of Undertale is its brilliant writing. It's better than the Mother games that inspired it, and I say it as a long-time fan of the Mother series. But I do admit, that Deltarune has some moments where a few particular lines in crucial moments felt overly melodramatic. But this happens in the first chapter, and in the later ones the writing doesn't dip to those levels. I still would say Deltarune's dialogue writing isn't as good as Undertale's, but the whole thing isn't out yet, so I'll reserve judgement.

I disagree about Deltarune. I don't think the writing is as good as in Undertale, but it's mostly because of it having less coherent and strong themes, feeling like it's in some areas retreading ground from Undertale, meandering away from the core of the story too much, and I don't care for some of the main characters. The dialogues for the most part are very competent and at Undertale level of quality, with those few exceptions I alluded to earlier.

First, foremost, and most often to get wrong ailment with dialogue: Make it seem natural.

Most people do not volunteer information for no reason. This colors every aspect of spoken interaction.
