Wine comes pre-installed on most distros.
Even if it doesn't, I've never done all that. installing wine on it's own works just fine most of the time. Just double click a .exe and watch it go.
If not, then you can use Lutris or Proton to do the work for you.

Also, this isn't coding. The only reason it shows terminal commands is so you don't need separate instructions for every Desktop Environment. You can do this with GUI in most of them.

Not anon but there are some. I've been a freetard for a while so not shilling windows, far from it. There are a few that wont work HOWEVER Bazzite, for some reason, really fixes some that I couldnt get working on other distros.

BERZERK and PERSONA STRIKERS gave me problems (AMD CARD) but for whatever reason berzerk runs out of the box on Bazzite. I'd sooner blame KOEI TECMO before I'd blame linux.

From experience, besides the few games that don't run they are mostly nothing special or Triple A garbage slop.

For the MEH games I'll play on console.
For TRIPLE A slop I picked up a used PS4 for $100 on facebook and can play Fallguys or whatever garbage there. Good trick for stupid launcher slop too (Ubisoft, EA, etc).


TL;DR Most good games work. Get a used PS4 to play AAA anticheat slop, niche bangers are usually on consoles you can easily emulate (Dreamcast, PS2).

Linux is no more complicated than Windows XP SP1 was back in the day. It's a pretty sooth experience unless you find some weird edge case. Some thing happened in the XP days because DOS games were picky with XP. Games like Tie Fighter you had to fuck around with to get to work. Not sure why computer enthusiast are so scare of it since it's right up their alley.

I don't know how to put this but linux devs are great at making desktops sometimes, but they are still UTTER SHIT when it comes to packaging those in a concise manner for a friendly user experience. And even then some of the desktops are still garbage.

KDE Plasma 6 sucks, Gnome sucks. I can explain in detail why they suck but itd be too long but in short.
KDE plasma 6 still has audio issues, crackling and the audio sliders lag when playing audio and adjusting along with being just super heavy, bloated and not a good desktop environment.
Gnome sucks because its wayland only for the default and its a tablet UI.

So that leaves you with LXQT, XFCE, MATE and Cinnamon for the only real desktop environments that linux has.


Let's take Linux mint currently, which is the "just werks" distro. It has two options,

Use cinnamon with the slow nemo file manager and overall is still a very heavy desktop that can't be run on all computers.

Use linux mint XFCE that's fast and can be run on pretty much any computer modern x64 computer, BUT they completely disregarded the user experience or usability of the desktop on first install unlike cinnamon edition.

All the games I've ran run perfectly. But the problem with PC gaming is if you don't use the most popular hardware and operating systems nothing fucking works and it's even harder to troubleshoot things because information is less abundant. I gave Linux a real shot with Ubuntu on my laptop and things worked fine enough for a while but one day the network settings just disappeared and I couldn't connect to the internet. It seems to be a common issue for years without an easy/clear fix. I couldn't figure out how to fix it without reinstalling the OS and I figured if I'm going to do that I might as well just install something that works.

I can deal with a few online games not working that require some anticheat and fucking around with the terminal every now and then or whatever. But if a critical part of the OS just breaks for some unknown reason that's unacceptable. Windows has a millions issues but at least it's reliable.
