This game really was ahead of its time and visionary, it predicted both the future and Internet discourse.

The jack of all trades. Contains a good spread of boards and minigames. Has some of the post-N64 slowness that Hudson was slowly consumed by, but this is the biggest negative I can think of for it on the fly.

Literally saved 4. Massive increase in item variety is a big plus. Turned the shitty mini-pipes into key gates, turned the mushroom spaces into normal item spaces. 4's lackluster board design cannot be escaped, but playing them is significantly less lackluster with DX's additions.

Only this high because of childhood nostalgia. Suffers horribly from many long events. Fuck you Paratroopa. Personally, I think the capsule system was an interesting mechanic. You can just pick up a Chance Time space from a gachapon machine, it's rad. But it only really shines in longer games, and normal-length games of 5 are already pretty drawn out. And even worse, those gachapon machines have completely replaced item shops, further gimping 5's item system.
However, 5 also has Super Duel Mode and Card Party. This has no effect on retardy, but I like them anyways.

What if we took 6 and made it worse? Worse boards, middling minigames (but I will always love you, Fun Run), Chance Time AND duels gutted and frankenstein'd together, and the most damning thing about it: the attempt to create a character meta.
Character-specific orbs are an interesting idea on paper, but at the same time, I don't want to be rewarded/penalized just because of the characters that are in the game. I never played Super, but that game tried it too, and I am thankful that the concept seems to have been shelved if Jamboree lacking character dice is any indication.

Without all those positives I gave 4DX, unmodded 4 is left to wash up down here at the bottom. I will say that it has some good minigames, including Dungeon Duos which is probably THE iconic minigame from 4, but 4DX offers too many improvements to ignore when compared to base 4.
