No, but playing the first game is a cheap way to understand the second game isn't worth playing.

The first one was alright, simply as a shooter rpg. Dialogue was kinda goofy, I never really gave the story too much thought. I dropped it after that girl comes out of the closet after you invite her onto your ship. Then you have to help her get together with her lesbian lover. Like the hell you think I invited you onto my ship out of the kindness of my heart? Bitch I was trying to get it in. Anyways, other than the Rick Sanchez scientist I hardly remember anything else from it.

no, they're entirely separate, there are references of course but nothing is mentioned that would leave you lost or unable to understand things. It's set dozens of years in the future.

Just make sure you don't pick flaws. The game does a great job making you feel like the progression is linear throughout the entirety of paradise but if you pick ANY flaws, as soon as you get out you'll be turbofucked, because the game has shit tons of areas that directly counteract every single one. All those stealth perks that seem pretty safe to take? Guess what, forced combat, enjoy that -15% hp. Klepto because stealing is viable? now every single vendor has half a dozen items just sitting in front of them and it rolls every second individually for each item in your grab radius, enjoy reloading your save a trillion times every time you enter a settlement to avoid getting fucking jailed or charged a 5000 bit bounty.

It's awful feeling because you can play around them a lot on paradise, but the rest of the game does not offer the same benefit. You basically just have to savescum, it's boring as shit.

Right now I am about half way through the game ( I would say about where you kill Benny in New Vegas as a comparison in game length) and its a noticeable markup from the first in every way. Not only is the first planet a fun storyline, but sofar everything else has been as well. The Two factions at play are strangely endearing in their own ways, with noticeable drawbacks and quirks to each.

The gunplay is much more fun, The game refuses to let you jack of all trades it, and there is far more choices you cant make due to not having the build for it (positive for this kind of game)

despite what im sure you heard, Id say 75% of the companions are fun, way better then the first all around.

Overall its an 8/10 RPG game, if you liked the first youll love this, if you didnt like the first you will probably like this one more. The plot is more interesting then the first.

Why does the fitgirl description say that it takes between 50 mins to 2 hours to install the game? Is this just what pirating games is like these days?

I specialized in Guns, Engineering and Observation. 9~ hours in Observation has been pretty useless, a few pointless dialogue options and extremely rare hidden doorways. Especially frustrating with all the missed fucking hack/lockpicking opportunities. Does it ever do anything useful or should I try finding a mod/save editor so I can repec?
