one step from eden and the sequel duelists of eden
turned out pretty well despite me hating pretty much everything that's come out in the past decade. really fun games, spent hundreds of hours in each, just REALLY wish I had bought the plushies they made because I dont think it's popular enough to get resellers. overall it was time and money well spent!
before that? I pre ordered borderlands 3 like a big fucking retard, i didnt really look into what the creators behind the series were. just played two and the presequel and naively assumed it was gonna be fun. biggest piece of shit I've ever played.
I cant really recall following hype cycles for recent games because they tend to disappoint me quickly and I forget about them or it's something I've seen on the thumbnail of a video I dont watch or a thread I dont click on. I think I was following elden ring for all of five minutes until I saw the gameplay and realized it wasn't improving on ds3's in ny meaningful way.
in the past I pre ordered several games, all of them I genuinely liked so BL3 was my first and biggest burn. I was thinking of pre ordering the sonic racing game after playing the demo but decided not to. glad I did, racing games aren't my thing and I'm sure I would've gotten bored of it quickly.
I'm definitely looking into code vein two though, only thing that's about to come out that doesn't look terrible.

I'm sorry to hear that anon, I've seen what the devs are doing from what they post and none of it inspires hope

didnt follow fallout 4's hype cycle whatsoever, just knew I liked f3 and nv so I picked it up when the first discounts happened. returned it within two days, fucking weird since I rarely do that with games that aren't pure shit. It was okay but so boring that I felt compelled to get rid of it.
