The reason this board has become so obsessed with Steam Chart threads is because /v/ has been utterly compromised by normalfags. A normalfag is obsessed with one thing above all others: Validation from their peers. Being "with it" is everything to them. Anybody who uses player numbers as an argument for why something is good/bad should immediately be told to fuck off back to R*ddit or wherever

Most sales numbers are lies being pushed by publishers, so they can keep pulling the wool over their investor's eyes.
Playercounts are less nebulous than overly inflated sales numbers.
Revealing the deception means that a game's actual quality can take the forefront, rather than purely performative marketing.

People USED to use steam charts, for what their stated purpose is. The problem is faggot actors realized people do that and fill it with garbage data and use it as a vector for shilling crap, even though every element of garbage data looks fucked in comparison to actual organic usage of data by people.
It's why the Steam Hardware Survey is a complete joke these days and Devs aren't suckered in to put in the time and money to make chink translations/pandering for their crap because some warehouse in Wumao has a thousand PCs fire up steam on survey days to flood the chart with meaningless garbage data that helps literally nobody because those aren't real users.
Really the main damage done is that people can't even use the data as an end user because it provides zero helpful information for what it could represent.
Ex: Popular parts chosen for PCs, Games people like and regularly play, etc.
Hell even the Deck Top Played has this problem because retards figured out how to trick steam into thinking the device you're reporting to steam is an actual Steam Deck.
Terraria and Tmod loader is known to be like top 20 for over a year and it's currently buried under a fucking Stardew Valley clone that pays some dudes to fire it up on a bunch of fake steam decks.

Steam chart threads are garbage but I'm starting to worry about how little staying power most modern games have

4chan as a whole was overrun by failed normalfags - people who are here not because they're nerds who love particular entertainment and want to discuss it without all the clutter that anonymity gets rid of, but because their pathetic asses got rejected both in real life and by every normalfag community they wanted to be part of, so they're coming here to vent their frustrations and shit everything up in the process.

People want to be part of something bigger than they are which is why they obsess about big numbers so much. It makes their tiny, insignificant lives feel better. And of course they have to be better than you.

The quality of this board would be 9000 times better if everyone had the sense and the discipline to use sage on threads they don't actually like. We would probably need a "don't bump thread" checkbox instead of an options field for all the tourists and zoomies who don't know what sage is, but one of the major problems is that, even when people recognize that threads are stupid bullshit, they reply to them anyway because they're mad (and of course people don't always remember to stop and type "sage" when they're seething). Actually it would be ideal if sage were the default, so that the only threads getting bumped are the ones people have explicitly decided to bump. Preferably this would be done with the options field and not with a checkbox so that tourists don't know how to do it.
There should also be thread IDs identifying samefags.
