Yes. I remember a long time ago I complained that there were a lot of sections where you were in control for 10 seconds after a cutscene or walking segment before you got thrown into another cutscene or walking segment. Someone told me I was being hyperbolic so I replayed RE6 with a stopwatch and there are actually a lot of sections where you are in control for 5 seconds after a cutscene or walking segment before you get thrown into a cutscene or walking segment. RE6 has the bones of a good action game but it constantly gets in its own way which makes it the worst thing a game can be: boring.

Resident Evil 6 Mercenaries alone is better than 7: Biohazard and the demakes combined. Yes, the game has a lot of flaws because they were trying to pander to the Call of Doody audience, but the mechanics of controlling your character and the melee attacks are some of the best in gaming. Yeah Leon sucks. Helena is better. Ada is the worst character in the game because of her crossbow. You can improve it slightly by enabling auto reload so all you have to do is hold the trigger but it still blows.
Regular Ada is bottom tier for mercs and EX Ada is the worst character in the game.

RE5 has the best mercenaries in the series. Though at least in 6's mercs you don't have to stand in specific places on the stage to get all the enemies to spawn. Ship Deck is really hard to get all 150 enemies because of the spawn point bullshit. Prison is the easiest to get a perfect combo because it's one big spawn point.

Really though, RE6 has some cool ideas but gets in its own way, so much so that every time I talk about it I feel like I've played it more recently than most other people which is saying something because according to Steam I haven't touched that game in 3 years, almost to the day. I don't want to rescue hostages from zombies, I don't want to fight an infected helicopter a la DMC2. Yawn needed to kill 1 dude for me to care about killing Yawn, I don't need to hear an entire team wipe to the new snake. Is it worth playing strictly for the Mercenaries mode? I really liked it in 4 and especially 5, but never tried 6 because of the shit campaign. Should I give 6 Mercs a chance?

No not at all, I see it regularly make like top ten worst games ever made lists, which I think are just made by people that have never actually played bad games. From a writing perspective, the story is stinky, but its not horrible to play and actually pretty fun co-op, and the mercenaries mode is one of the best in the series. I would still rather replay it over 7 or 8. I don't think any of the mainline RE games are actually bad, the worst they get is middling or missed potential, some of the spinoffs are another story though

Yes you can play it right off the bat too, you don't need to unlock it. Just know that there is a melee attack you can do with your back turned that's pretty powerful and sets up for a finisher with the men. Jake's melee, Sherry's baton and Chris' knife are very powerful. Chris is a high skill character because he doesn't have any health items.

Counters take the fun out of the game for me. Especially frustrating when you're about to drop the combo and going for a stomp but another enemy snags the input for their counter and kills the combo. The method I see online of shooting every enemy a few times then finishing them with a counter isn't fun.

NTA but I despised Leon's campaign the most and I'm a horrorfag. Aside from the Chinese market and the cathedral fight, the whole thing was an exercise in frustration. The first hour was basically a walking sim, you get introduced to the lovely concept of TRIPPING OVER FUCKING ZOMBIES afterwards, Helena herself is the worst plot device I've seen in years - "I promise I'll let you know what's going on as soon as we get to the cathedral" and even Leon calls her ass out on this shit after a while, WAY too much of the campaign is trying to tug on heartstrings with dramatic deaths and "it's like Raccoon City all over again" nostalgia, and the cherry on the shit sundae is the final fight against Simmons, which may be the single dumbest, most tedious boss fight I've dealt with in a RE game. Also hated the fight against Helena's sister or whatever the fuck her name is but at least she was a naked slimegirl so ehhhhhhh. Chris's had better raw action, Jake's had better overall setpieces, and Ada's had better puzzles and semi-felt like it was meant to be played single player, so I can say nicer things about all the other campaigns than Leon's.

In RE6, I played both characters campaigns on Professional and No Hope with a friend on keyboard and controller, and if you had a problem with the controls, you just suck at games in general. (Which makes sense since RE4 is dead stupid easy)

I had fun solo and coop mode and that's all that matters. Still the best mercenaries mode and PC version lets you play with Nick, Rochelle, Ellis and Coach.

I still think the controls are bad even in story mode. Having to manually reload after every shot makes you develop a habit of excessive reloading with other characters. The reticle is retarded too, the green balls are larger than an enemy's head so sometimes it seems like the arrows go right through them. Though the sub machine gun that you can switch between full auto and semi auto does that too, that's actually the worst gun in the game.

Ada teased Leon in the old games but her schtick was already getting old by 4. They had to do some retcon to make her seem like she didn't aid Wesker in almost destroying the world. Anything past that and I don't really care for her, Leon deserves Ashley and Claire.

I remember liking like 90% of it. The main villains sucked, especially their designed. The forced scripted sections where you have to walk or wait make replaying the game agony. Mercs was great, I love the counter mechanic. The inventory is a step down from 4 and 5. Characters were good, Claire and Jill missing was a bit of a downer. Feels like their inclusion would have completed things nicely.

But seriously fuck the people who bitched about the QTEs like they were the end of the world when the game first game out, 4 and 5 had QTEs and no one whined as much as they did with 6 to the point where they gave you the option to turn them off. And people STILL bitched.

If this game had a tutorial and no scripted qte garbage then more people would love it.

It really needed a control tutorial for Jake and the various other melee attacks including the knife moves. I still don't understand how to do the stab move with the knives, it just randomly happens sometimes.

I think what you're talking about is a counter move when you have the knife equipped
If you're holding the knife you need to hold M2 and then press M1 just like how you would use a gun

For me it's Action RE. 9 looks like trash.
