The old designs of nuTawna before the troon self inserted OC his design into the game were way more fun. Tawna being a sort of Laura Croft/Indiana Jones character fit the legacy aesthetic way better than what we got.
That paired with the sequel being god awful, with the general style of everything that made the original trilogy charming being uyterly flanderized, killed the hype train dead in its tracks.
The complaints of NST told the developers exactly what people wanted. They wanted more Crash as they remembered it, with tight, punchy, short levels, that rewarded expert timing and creative emergent gameplay.
What we got instead is more of everything everybody who was loyal to the series, that would have made the sequels financially solvent, didnt want. Long, drawn out levels, boring, uninspired, in your face obnoxiously ugly designs, so much fucking thinly coded fetish shit holy fuck, god damn backtracking up the ass, punishing as all fuck level design, time trials that demanded computer perfect play, and all potential fun completely sucked out of every original idea the developers had.
Crash 4 could have been a success if it had nuTawna sections, assuming they didn't adopt her rainbow freak design, kept to the minimum, in line with the Coco sections of the trilogy, and tightened up the game. Fuck, it should have had half thd budget it had and at best, mafe it a 8 hour game at most. People would have tripped over themselves to praise it.
