My favorite shotgun related piece of media is this one bodycam vid of a SWAT raid. Three cops magdump some gigatweaker with handguns and an AR and he keeps stumbling around, and then some fatass cop shuffles to the front of the stack, aims a shotgun, and physically removes the entire head of the perforated suspect with the lazy sluggishness of an elderly cat. Like the entire head of the individual is atomized.

I dislike that guns are "balanced" around arbitrary maximum weapon ranges by just making the pellets or bullets. If I want to plink at some retard 50m away with my shotgun just let me be retarded in peace. People will still seethe about getting one tapped within 8m regardless.

Funny thing is in a /k/ scenario shotguns are basically just fuckin' rifles with buckshot. In any game that treats them realistically you can mince people down the street with a shotgun, since the pellet spread is still liable to shred a target up, and a slug may as well be removing the stereotypes from the equation entirely. Making them so close range that you have to sneeze on someone for the kill is the only thing really keeping them in check.

I can assure you that the person bitching in the original image was probably just a terminal sprinter that keeps running into shotgunners on lobbies and blames the weapon type rather than himself. When you get a good shotgun kill in CoD it's satisfying as hell, but they're so goddamn impractical compared to nearly any SMG or AR that you're basically just doing it for rule of cool or you know what the hell you're doing. The same can be said of shotguns in most modern MP games; unless all guns suck for range besides a sniper, or mobility in the game is absolute obnoxious bullshit, that's on you for letting the pump get within face-destroying range.

My favourite game for shotguns is Battlefield 1. People were reasonably justified in calling the 10-A overpowered but my god it's one of the most satisfying shotguns I've ever used in a game. Everything about it, from its power to its sound design, is just immaculate. The M1900 double-barrel is also fun as hell too, especially with slugs.
