All these over top third person animation mods are just too goofy to take seriously.
One of the only redeeming qualities of skyrim is the immersion, my character doing over the top anime moves seems like a great way to ruin it.

Conan Exiles already has combat reminiscent of Souls games and Elden Ring is moddable, there are tons of mods for it because of its popularity, even a first person mod. Bethesda games is easier to mod because it has official mod support and tools that allow you to do pretty much anything if you put your mind to it.

There's no real solution to this, its just the consequence of having so many mods. All you can do is prevention. You should make sure you have a lot of save slots, don't rely on 1 slot quicksaves all the time. Then occasionally, maybe once a day depending how often you play, you should load up re-saver, load your most recent save, and make sure it doesn't have a list of new issues, if it does, revert to a previous save thats clean. Sucks ass but its the only real solution.

Long play time crashes come from save corruption, so you have to try to prevent that corruption in the first place.

That's kind of the thing, it doesn't matter if you have a godly computer or even some workstation super machine, Gamebryo to Creation Engine is still garbage, and Skyrim and Fallout 4 both have endless amounts of script bloat issues as everything that happens in a save continues racking and racking and racking on itself. Inevitably your save is gonna be so filled with unresolved things, endless variables, saved elements, etc, especially if you add a bunch of new modded content in, that it's gonna fucking wanna die. And this isn't even getting into other problems with the engine, like how if you simply load a save, various things don't properly reset as they should, and you should actually be quitting the entire game and THEN loading a save for everything to work correctly.

I just don't get the people that make gigantic modded runs and act like Skyrim is so awesome when it's fundamentally fucked from the ground up, doubly so for Fallout 4.

The problem with any modlist is you're trusting the taste of a single person who has no game design background and are insane enough to put together a ~3000 count modlist for free.

For first person, I think you can configure Ultimate Combat using Wildcat as your main combat overhaul. But you're right that it's still not enough to turn it into good first person dungeon crawler combat, modernized or classic.

I honestly really enjoy Skyrim's gameplay. I'd like for some things to have a bit more depth or some variety, such as different attack animations for weapons would go a long way. The difference in weapon damage types could mean more, like Maces/Hammers against Skeletons and Automaton. It does now, but it's not particularly noticeable. Longer, deeper dungeons is something i want in games in general, but I'd love it for Skyrim. It'd give a reason for all these survival-lite mechanics, like cooking food, finding alchemical ingredients underground and knowing the recipe, the need for sleep, and all that. As of now... it's not really important.

The 1st person combat in skyrim is genuinely horrible, as in other games with 1st person melee combat. There's a reason why these combat mods exist and are so popular in the first place. At least in 3rd person you can put some emphasis on position and using the terrain to your advantage. You can gauge the length of your weapon properly as well, especially with mods like precision that adds weapon collisions on solid objects and surfaces so you're not just mindlessly swinging your weapon at things in front of you.

I would say that the only reason I'd using first person is sneak archery but the true directional movement mod also adds target lock on anyway. So you never miss shots with bows.

I stared a modded run recently and had a cool little adventure today. Did the normal intro of going form Riverwood to white run and gathered multiple companions, cleared the barrow, fought the dragon, and then picked up some message board jobs to deliver letters to Windhelm. I'll probably head there and then continue the main quest. I haven't tried the built in survival mode or any of the mods but I think I might try it this time. Hardcore in New Vegas is always fun.

I am trying to avoid spending too much time looting like I usually do.

Had a neat idea I'm trying to pursue for a playthrough.
A gold/silversmith character who doesn't work on harder metals, so no metal weapons and armor either. Tribal native themed. Uses transmutation to convert iron ores into gold, then craft it into expensive jewelry as a main form of trade, aside from loot.
Considering either redguard, khajit or maybe argonian.

Lowering my carry weight to around 100, depending on my race, has helped. Then I have to go a step further by limiting what I can loot. As a Nord, Orc, or Redguard who respects the dead, I don't loot Draugr Tombs. And I limit what I loot off of corpses, which are gems, lockpicks, alchemical ingredients if playing an alchemist, and arrows I've used. There's a few allowances, such as regular clothes because I like to look nice, books, spells because of mods, and quest related items of course.

It's seems like a lot, but honestly, it feels natural to me at this point. Much more believable, gold is a real resource, and it makes doing the smaller quests really worthwhile. Combine that with Honed Metal sinks into my gold unless I'm playing a blacksmith, which then I have to go out and find a lot of ore or buy it directly from stores. I was really surprised to find the right kind of comfy with just a few mods.

I'll have to give some of this a try. I am playing and orc and using a mod that adds religious devotion. Malacath likes people who kill giant monsters and smith stuff. The only housing mod I have is a modest shack in Riverwood that needs to be repaired and then upgrading with the construction goods from hearthfire.

i would just play elden ring instead tho? when i mod skyrim i keep the combat pretty vanilla and just add gore, put the damage taken and dealt around 4x, and add slash/hit effects that make the enemies actually flinch when u hit them. those couple of things together make the combat feel so much better. you will have to tweak magik damage a little bit aswell
